"Thanks" I murmured when Luke put a coffee cup in front of me and sat beside me.
"So"
"So" I repeated awkwardly.
"How are you doing?" He said as he put his hands behind his head.
"Great" I said, faking a smile. The truth, I was uncomfortable. And I didn't know what was the aim of this unexpected invitation.
"Are you doing friends?" He said, resting his hand on the table.
"Yeah... Jason introduced me to his friends." I said, then took a sip from my coffee.
"Jason." He repeated then bit his lower lip. I nodded.
"What's wrong with him?" I asked.
"Nothing. It's just... I didn't like him."
"You don't know him to judge him."
We fell in an awkward silence.
"So what's the reason of this unexpected invitation?" I said straightforward. I can't support awkward moments.
"Can't I hang out with my friend?" He said offended.
Friend? Seriously Luke?!
Out loud I said: "Yeah... It was just unexpected."
"Jennifer!" Mary said when she saw me.
"Hey!" I said and hugged her.
"I was heading to Jason's place."
"I was going home. Maybe we can go together." I said while packing my things.
"That would be great."
I looked at Luke and said: "I'll see you later."
"Yeah. Sure thing. Bye." He said.
On our way, she said:
"Who's this guy you were with?"
"Said to be 'friend'" I said. I added when she gave me a confused look "It's complicated. "
"Ohh"
"I'll tell you later." I said. She nodded smiling.
We chatted on our way. When we reached my neighborhood, I told her I am going home.
"You're not coming with me?" She asked. I shook my head and said:
"No. I'm heading home."
... At the end, I ended up at Jason's house since she made me. Believe me; she's stubborn.
"Wanna drink something?" Jason asked.
"No thanks. I'm fine." There was a pause before I said "It's strange finding your house clean."
"Honey, this is Jason. He wants everything to be perfect." Mary said behind the counter.
"So you're a perfectionist." I said leaning on the table behind me. He simply nodded, avoiding my gaze.
"Jen" Mary said. She was about to say something, but then she stopped and murmured "Nevermind"
"How do you love to go on a road trip with me?" Jason asked us.
"Maybe you should go with Jen. I should go home." Mary said.
"Oh c'mon. It'll be fun!" I whined.
"Yeah I know. Everything with you will be fun, but I really have to go." She answered. She hugged me and Jason, then left.
While I was waiting for Jason to get dressed, I called dad.
"Hi dad!" I said over the phone.
"Hello sweaty" he said "Whats up?"
"I'm going with Jason somewhere."
"And may I know where prince charming is taking you?" He mocked in a British accent.
"Dad, we're just friends. I don't know where he's taking me" I said, blushing.
"Is this your dad?" Jason asked, entering the kitchen. I nodded. "Let me talk to him."
"Dad, Jason wants to talk to you." I didn't hear the reply since Jason took the phone immediately. Dad was saying something that made Jason smirk, looking at me.
"Hello Mr. Jackson! This is me, Jason." He said politely. He took the car key and gestured for me to start the car. I took it and went to the parking. He was saying something I couldn't hear. When I started the car, it made a roaring sound, turning to life. Moments later, he entered the car with a ear to ear smile on his face. What did he tell me, and why he didn't want me to hear him? I thought.
"First question: what were you talking about?" I asked
"Something." He simply answered.
"Second question: where are we going?" I asked.
"Somewhere" he simply answered.
"Your answers really answer my questions and explain a lot." I said. He chuckled.
