The older Doctor Stein smiled and took off his glasses as he looked at Trinity, "Did you hear me, Trinity? I said you don't have to be alone anymore."
Trinity gasped and her eyes blinked a few times, as if she was coming back to reality, "Y-Yes, I heard you, doctor." She responded, chuckling from her own mistake.
"I'm glad you're doing better, Trinity. Everyday you come I always see a smile now. You don't look as dreaded or depressed as before, you look like you've been enjoying life." Doctor Stein spoke as he closed his portfolio and placed it on the coffee table in front of him, now taking his glass of coffee and taking a small sip.
"Mhm." Trinity answered him as she took a small sip of her coffee as well, "I admittedly still have reoccurring episodes, but I know I'm not alone. And they're not as bad as before. I have Momo at home to keep me company when I'm like that." She answered as she smiled.
"Momo, huh? That kitten you told me about a while back? I suppose that she is a full grown cat now. Cats can sense when they're owners are distressed, they'll come cuddle you when they sense that about you, depending on how much they love you."
"Yes, she's very sweet. I mean, it was your advice that made me get a pet anyway." She said as she put her cup down on the coffee table before looking down at her phone to see the time, "Oh my. It's already that time? I have to visit Vince at work."
Doctor Stein stood up slowly and reached for his cane, guiding Trinity to the door, "Vince, hm? Is he that boy you've been seeing?"
Trinity grabbed her purse and stood up with Doctor Stein, nodding her head, "Maybe... We're taking things really slow. But I'm happy. I really am." She said, smiling overly exaggeratingly to make him laugh.
Doctor Stein laughed along with her, coughing violently after the laugh which made Trinity stop in concern for him.
"Doctor, are you okay?" She asked, her head tilting in concern as her voice softened.
"Yes, yes. I'm just an old man now. We old people get like this sometimes, nothing to worry about." Doctor Stein chuckled as he waved away the subject at hand.
Trinity's face still showed signs of worry, but she smiled nonetheless, "I can't believe this is your last day on the job though. I'm really going to miss you, doctor." She spoke, giving him a hug immediately.
"Oh-!" Doctor Stein gasped and laughed as he hugged her back, "I know, I know. I'll still be around though. Maybe we'll see each other at the store sometime, or the coffee shop.
"I hope so. You saved my life, doctor." She admitted, pulling away from the hug, "You helped me accept myself for who I am, and opened my eyes to the truth. I'll never forget that."
"It's my job, Trinity. I'm just happy to see you smiling again. Now get on outta here!" He shouted with some laughs as he followed Trinity outside and waved goodbye as she walked to her car.
As Trinity sat down and put on her seatbelt, a tear had ran down her cheek as her hands laid flat on the steering wheel. Her look gazed upon the doctor once again before she turned on the car and proceeded to back up, driving past him as she waved goodbye. The old doctor would watch as her car drifted away, becoming invisible to the travel she had join forced with. He sighed, the sigh became visible from the cold air of the outside. He reached into his pocket and pulled out some papers he had crumpled up out of pure frustration. The paperwork stated his confirmation with skin cancer he had just been dealing with for over a year. His hand clung to the papers tightly as tears ran down his cheek, whispering, "I hope I see her again, before-..."
He couldn't speak no longer. He put the papers back in his pocket and proceeded back to his office where he would begin his packing. Everything of his was placed in his large box, with a photo frame laying on his desk being the last thing to pack. He picked it up and looked at the photo. He had pictures of all his patients, including Trinity. This picture was from when she first became his patient years ago. She looked so distraught, so demented. Her lips even formed a slight grin as she looked into the camera.
Doctor Stein shook his head and tossed the picture into his box before picking the whole box up and walking to the door, taking one last look in the room before heading out. The lights turned off on their own after detecting no one else in the room. The room was empty, though one thing was left on his desk, something he perhaps forgot on purpose. It was a packet with Trinity and Tatum's case information with a large CASE OPEN status on it, revealing that the police were still investigating Tatum's death surrounding Trinity to this day. Was she functional during that time or would she be labeled as insane?
