"This doesn't feel real..."
"I can't believe it."
"I mean I can but..."
"It doesn't seem like him..."
"But at the same time, who else would it have been?"
"God, it's not fair..."
"I'm always the one getting hurt," Evie blabbered, pacing around her room like a dog before settling in just the right spot. She was on the verge of tears, undoubtably. She seemed to always be that way. Yet again she was helpless, and powerless in her own life.
"I'm surprised we didn't think of jailtime," Audrey remarked with a touch of humor, comfortably plopped on Evie's bed.
"Seriously, Auds?" Evie snapped with an annoyed huff. She stopped trudging back and forth and stared at her mistress. "I'm angry more than anything. I should've known it was him. All those threats, sly comments here and there. And to think he even attended her funeral. What a bastard."
Audrey stood from the, in her opinion, rock hard mattress to hold her blue princess's arms slightly below her tense shoulders.
"But they got him," she said with emphasis and a reassuring smile across her face. "You never have to see that bastard ever again. You can live freely in your own house. Hell, I can move in with you."
"People will talk."
"They've always talked. At least give them something good to talk about." She pulled Evie in for a hug. "Besides," Audrey continued in a sensual purr, stepping back from her lover. "We have the place to ourselves."
With a raised eyebrow, encouraging Evie to give in, the pink princess carefully tugged at her hostess's arms to bring her onto the bed.
"I don't think you can fuck my feelings away this time," the blue haired woman remarked with resistance. Audrey bit her lip with envy, her lip gloss still fresh and moist to the touch. She knew Evie could only hold out for so long before feeling urged to taste it.
"He's where he belongs. The night that monster confessed I knew I had to do something."
Evie's head cocked to the left. She pressed her well exercised tongue to the inside of her cheek in thought at Audrey's statement.
"The night he confessed?" she repeated. The slightly taller princess distanced herself from Audrey in an attempt to rebel against her affection. "You turned him in." Her tone was as solid as the mattress atop the bed both of them had shared too much time in. Words could barely surface in either mouth of the women. An unprecedented, nonsexual tension lingered in the room.
"Eves, I had to. I wasn't going to let him get away with what happened to Mal." She attempted to contain her emotions, certain they would only escalate the situation. "I heard him murmur something in his sleep the night I came in the window. I wanted to do the right thing—"
"You sent my husband to prison!" She practically lept from the bed, leaving Audrey sitting alone.
"And quite frankly he deserves worse! He was an abusive drunkard that forced you into marriage. I wanted to help you, help us." Her tone abruptly shifted from anger to compassion.
"Us?" Evie growled, in utter disbelief. She crossed her arms over her chest in a temper. "I loved him."
"Don't try to convince yourself, you never loved him. And I don't think he ever really loved you." She stepped closer to Evie, wanting nothing more than to aid her lover's distress. The blue girl ignored her and remained as solid as the mattress in her position. Audrey brought her voice into a gentle whisper, "I did it because I love you. And because you don't deserve this. Mal didn't deserve it."
Evie's gaze slowly met Audrey's and their eyes locked with intimacy. Their connection had been deep, but in Audrey's eyes, now all the blueberry princess could see was mulch where a lavish forest once grew. The brunette's heart dropped as she sensed hesitance in Evie's posture, as if this good deed would separate them for an eternity. Had she known it would cause the missus such affliction, Audrey would've never done it.
"Do you hate me?" the mistress spoke hopelessly, praying it wasn't true.
"I don't hate you," Evie replied, her tone now softer and empathetic. "I don't think I could ever truly hate you. But I don't think I could ever truly love you either... Not now at least."
