13: Fooling the Fool

Narrator's POV

The bell rung twice before Samuel Salvatore answered his phone.
"Xavier, my boy. How are you son?"
"I'm good Samuel, how's life treating you?"
"Top of the world, as usual. Now tell me how come you remembered this old man?"
"Nothing, just met Stella so thought of you."
"You're in Scotland? I didn't know you're going there."
"Trust me, nor did I until my bags were packed and I was being dragged to the airport."
"Let me guess, Evelyn?"
"Who else?!"
"Gosh it's been ages since I saw that girl as well. Now tell me, what is it that you want?"
"Oh um I was just wondering does Stella remember that..."
"No, she doesn't nor does she need to be reminded of it." Said Samuel who's voice changed to a very serious tone.
"Right." Said Xavier thinking of what to say next.
Xavier may be a gang leader but an angry Samuel Salvatore is the last person anyone wants to deal with.
"Why do you ask all of a sudden?"
"No reason Samuel, just curious."
"Well okay. Take care son."
"You too Samuel. We hope to see you soon."
"I'm sure you will."

With that both of them hung up.
While Xavier had a confused expression, Samuel Salvatore looked at the New York skyline standing at the 45th floor and lightly whispered under his breath, "You can't lie to the person who taught you how to lie in the first place, Xavier."

"What happened? What did he say?" Asked Evelyn.
"She doesn't."
"But then what will we do?"
" We'll hide it. It's for everyone's good. She'll be devastated if she finds out." Said Xavier, this time sure of his decision.
"Xav, I don't know. Sometimes you keep secrets from the ones you love because you are trying to protect them but you actually end of hurting them."
"You're right Eve. I know you're right. But look at her and tell me, when was the last time we saw her this happy?"
"But Xav sooner or later she will find out."
"She will but there's time for it. And until then if she's as happy as she is right now, I won't utter a word. I'll let her hate me for it later, but I'm not taking that smile away from her. It's been a long time since I've seen her smile like that Eve. Look at her, she's happy."
"She is, she really is." Said Evelyn looking fondly at Stella who was bickering with Tristan about something again.

"Okay, guys where are you going right now then?" Said Stella to both Xavier and Evelyn.
"We've checked into a hotel, we'll move our stuff to to the dorms tomorrow." Said Evelyn.
"You're coming home with me. No discussion." Said Stella.
"But Stel..." Xavier started but was cut off by Kiara.

"Or maybe we all can go to someone's house and play truth or dare. It's the weekend anyway and there's not much to do." Said Kiara.
"That's an amazing idea Kiara. Plus maybe Xavier and Evelyn can tell us stuff about Stella's childhood as well." Said Rosella.
"Yeah totally, that's an added bonus." Said Emily.
"Okay then everyone, let's go to my house?" Asked Stella.
"Sounds like a plan." Said Noah.

"You guys go, we'll just get some of our stuff from the hotel and join you guys in a while." Said Xavier.
"You remember the house?" Asked Stella.
"Of course I do Teddy Bear. We've lived there all summer since ages now."
"Okay then, see you guys." Said Jayson.

They all departed to the cars and went back to Stella's house.
Once they reached everyone got out when Stella said, " We need snacks for the night."
"Let's go." Said Tristan pulling her hand.
"Where?" Asked Stella.
"Prada"
"But why? Wouldn't it be closed right now?"
"Obviously Stella. We're going to the supermarket. You did that on purpose, didn't you?"
"Duh. Obviously. You're kinda cute when you're annoyed." Said Stella not realising what she was saying.
"What? You think I'm cute?" Asked Tristan laughing.
"Um no. Like cuter than that Mr grumpy look you always have but not actually cute." Said Stella looking around.
"It's okay Stella, I think you're really cute too." Said Tristan still laughing.
"I am not cute. But whatever let's go now."
