Sticks and Stones

War was quite fun way back in the day
we stood in straight lines and we fired away
"But that's just no fun," the colonists say
and so they tried fighting another way

Much later on, we went out in the world
where political threats were readily hurled
the peace that we cherished has slowly unfurled
and the fires of rivalry crackled and swirled.

Well now we fight battles with atoms and pox
where danger can lurk in a cereal box
and our guns are so small they can fit in our socks.
Why can't we just go back to branches and rocks?
