Richie Tozier was not a coward.
Everyone in his friend group knew this, but it didn't stop them from trying to protect him. Richie had gone through some shitty experiences and had no one besides his friends to rely on.
Whether it be a horrible relationship or being bullied by his dad, Richie needed some kind of support. He wasn't a coward, though.
He tried to be fearless, because in his mind, if you didn't act scared, you weren't scared.
It often concerned his friends, as he refused to show any form of vulnerability. He was closed off and refused to let them think he was weak. After his last disastrous relationship, Bev actually began to feel like she'd never let him date again.
Until she met Eddie.
She'd met Eddie Kaspbrak when she went to go meet her new boyfriend, Ben, at work. The pair of them worked at a zip line park, and Ben wanted to show Bev how much he enjoyed his job.
So, he took her on a private tour.
Bev couldn't deny the amazing thrill that ran through her veins when she was nearly ninety feet in the air, soaring through the trees. It was especially rewarding to have her sweet boyfriend with her, explaining all of the aspects of zip lining and how much he loved his job. Then, he took her down to the ground for lunch.
They sat at a table and were soon joined by a short boy with brown hair and brown eyes. He was tan and smiling widely at Ben.
"You must be Beverly! Ben has told me so much about you!" he exclaimed, holding out his hand to her, grinning from ear to ear.
Bev took his hand and shook it, soon learning that the boy's name was Eddie and that he was a coworker of Ben's. He loved his job as well, and he and Ben were both the tour guides of the highest leveled zip lines.
After the initial meeting, Bev and Eddie learned that they had a lot in common and begun to hang out. They were hanging out when Bev brought up the idea of setting Richie up on a private tour with Eddie.
"Hey, Eddie?"
"Yeah?" Eddie asked, his head down and focused on painting Bev's nails with the new, sky blue polish he'd gotten earlier that day.
"If I paid for it, would you take one of my friends on a private tour?" she asked in a sweet voice, but Eddie immediately looked up at her with a suspicious look.
"There's more to it, isn't there? Which friend?" he asked, and Bev cursed herself for letting Eddie know her well enough to see through her "innocent" plans.
"His name is Richie and he's totally your type!" she exclaimed, but Eddie wasn't swayed.
"Bev, I don't need some fuckboy trying to touch me when I'm at work," he said in a forcibly calm voice, trying to not get upset.
His past experiences on private tours with other men had not always been pleasant.
"Eddie, I promise you I would never ever let you go through a bad experience if I can help it. Seriously, you and Richie are perfect for each other!"
Eddie could see that Bev was actually serious. She really wanted him to go on a date with Richie.
Whoever that was.
"Fine, but if he does anything, I'm not strapping him into his harness tightly and blaming it on Ben."
"Wouldn't have it any other way," Bev said with a smirk. "I've gotta go, see you later!"
Bev stood and ran out of the house to go tell Richie the news, Eddie yelling out behind her.
"What do you mean you have to go?! This is your house, Beverly!"
