Eddie didn't know what he was feeling. He'd woken up in a daze, his mind completely clouded over. It was like a veil draped itself over his mind, stealing away any form of rationality and comfort. All he knew was he felt sweaty and feverish, and that he needed to leave the house before his mother saw how sickly he seemed. If she saw he wasn't feeling well, she'd scream at him (again) for opting out of taking his pills and force him to take more.

They were fake though, Eddie thought, weakly getting out of bed. They were fake and she's a liar. Get out of bed, idiot.

He managed to pull himself from his bed and walk to his closet, pulling out a sweatshirt and a pair of sweats. The sweatshirt gave off a comforting smell, one that Eddie enjoyed immensely. He'd never cared for what things smelled like before; that was reserved for the presented population. That was a group that Eddie had not become part of when he turned sixteen.

All of his best friends and future pack had presented weeks after they were sixteen. He waited in anticipation for it to happen, but it never did. His hopes were slowly crushed as the days turned into weeks, then into months. He was almost a year past being sixteen, and he had yet to present. Not that any of his friends judged him for it, but the rest of the world did.

He remembered when Bill had announced he was an Alpha. No one was surprised, as Bill had always been a good leader and protected all of them. As Eddie became the only student at Derry High to not present, Bill being their leader helped him with how often he was bullied.

Richie followed soon after, excitedly calling Eddie to tell him that he had presented and was an Alpha. That made Eddie happy; he knew how bad Richie wanted to be an Alpha. Along his family line were a lot of Betas and a few Omegas, and Richie knew how hard it'd be if Derry's loudest trashmouth presented as the lowest level in society.

Following Richie were Stan and Ben, both presenting as Betas within weeks of each other. They helped keep the group together and always had been acknowledged as the smartest and most organized.

Mike had been terrified he wouldn't present. It took five weeks after his sixteenth birthday for his presentation to show itself. He became the third Alpha in the group, which surprised a lot of people. They always thought Mike would be a Beta, but Eddie was thankful he'd presented as an Alpha. It kept the bullies away from Mike, who was still roughed up because of his skin color.

Finally, Bev presented as their last Alpha, making their pack four Alphas, two Betas, and Eddie.

Everyone assured him that he'd be alright, since he was the youngest of their group. They all figured he was a little behind, especially with his mother's over-protectiveness and how sickly he was thought to be. Then, as time continued and Eddie didn't present, the group realized he had joined the less than one percent that didn't present before the age of seventeen, if ever.

Eddie shuddered as he pulled his backpack over his shoulders, going to the bathroom to splash his face with cold water. He felt too hot and too stressed to be walking around, but he refused to stay home. A week earlier, he had confronted his mom after forgetting to take his pills and not having anything happen. She had screamed at him when he stated he had discovered they were fake, saying they weren't helping him. Sonia hadn't taken it well, trying to force feed him the pills, but Eddie had ran off to hide at Richie's house until she had calmed down.
