Kingdom au ! I've always wanted to write one of these so fight me !

It was almost always cold in the kingdom of Drista. It rained most of the year, and when it wasn't raining, it was snowing heavily. There was only about three months every year when it was nice outside and the subjects didn't have to suffer the freezing air.

Eddie was seven when he met his first friend. It had just gotten warm out and his caretaker allowed him to go outside alone for the first time. His caretaker insisted it was too cold and dangerous for him to be out alone. However, when the sun broke through the clouds, he insisted that he would be safe and he was finally allowed to leave.

He ran down the streets, waving to all of the people. They all knew of Eddie; his parents had died when he was little so he was taken in by the seamstress. She taught him how to write, read, sew, and do many other basic things. He was always kind to everyone and often helped deliver clothing to many of the people in the town.

People smiled and waved back at the cheery seven year old, who was simply thrilled to be out in the sun, enjoying the warmth that was seldom present in their small village. It was an hour's walk away was the richer region of Drista and the palace. For some reason, it was sunnier there and not as cold as it was in their smaller village, but none of them minded.

Their village was home.

Eddie reached the small forested area closest to his home, ignoring the slight breathlessness he felt from running so fast. He sat down by a tree and grinned at the beautiful sight of the ocean from where he sat.

Being a seamstress's adopted child, Eddie was very lucky and always had everything he needed. However, he always missed having real friends. There weren't many kids in their village who went to see a seamstress due to lack of money, and as Eddie often stayed inside, he couldn't meet many kids his age.

"Hey! What're you doing under a tree?!" shouted an obnoxiously loud voice.

Eddie whipped around to see a boy much taller than himself running up to him. He had dark curly hair and torn clothes, but the smile on his face seemed real.

Eddie couldn't help but smile and blush in response. "I was looking at the ocean," he said softly as the boy made it to him, panting and dramatically gasping for air.

"That hill's a killer! You came all the way up a hill to sit under a tree and watch the ocean?" the boy asked, laughing giddily to himself.

"Yes, I did," Eddie said confidently. "I don't usually get to come out alone."

"You're a rich kid?" the boy asked, poking Eddie's shoulder. "Your clothes make it seem like that."

"My mommy is the seamstress," Eddie said, brushing off his shirt. "I have to wear nice clothes. Because of delivering to richer people and things like that."

The boy nodded. "Well I'm really poor and my dad's an asshole, so I can wear whatever I want," he said, referring to his dirty clothes.

Eddie gasped at the use of the swear word. "Are you allowed to say bad words?" he asked. If he'd said anything as bad as that, he'd have gotten punished for sure.

The boy bursted out laughing again. "Uh huh. No adults pay enough attention to stop me. What's your name?"

"Eddie," Eddie said, cautiously extending his hand to the other boy, who took it, smiling widely.

"Last name?"

"Don't have one. The seamstress, my mommy, said that I don't have one because it died with my parents," Eddie said, strangely unaffected by the words that came out of his mouth.
