As I walked back to the patient room I noticed there were a bunch of pictures of Connor and some doctor, I assume he's the one I'm going to meet right now. This just brings up a whole new round of questions like how long was Conner awake before us when did he leave or better yet, why did he leave me? Based off the memories I have, we seemed to be pretty close. He probably had a good reason, right?
"Hello, you must be Skyler," the doctor says, breaking me out of deep thought, "I'm doctor Kent, it's very nice to meet you," he continued reaching out his hand to shake mine. I just awkwardly shook his hand and looked at him. "So this is just a routine checkup to see if the cryo chamber affected you or any of the other gen Black Ice kids, most of them have been having issues getting back their memories, but that was expected going into it," oh doctor Kent don't you know that its bad to lie to your patients tsk tsk tsk, "Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary? Have you felt sick, or do you have any memory loss?" he asked, as he was taking my temperature.
"No, everything seems pretty normal to me, except I don't seem to have any of my memories back yet," I lied, deciding it is best to keep my memories to myself.
"Ok I just need to finish up taking your pulse and blood pressure, and then I will prescribe a medication that should help with the memory problem," he replied, I guess technically that wasn't a lie, it's to help their problem with the memories not mine.
"Ok thanks doctor Kent," I answered, "hey what are those picture of you and that guy out in the hall?"
"Oh, um, that, that's just a medical research project that I worked on with an aspiring medical student, but he's no longer with us," Dr. Kent replied stumbling on his words a bit.
"So, what happened to him?" I continued questioning.
"There was an accident in the lab and Mr. Zade was never the same afterwards," he answered looking slightly annoyed.
"What was th- ," "Ok you are all set, here is your prescription, you can pick it up from Manny, and I will see you next month," he cut me off basically shoving me out of the door, how rude! The nurse lady came back to escort me back to the lobby where R, Tara and Manny were waiting on me.
"Geez what took you so long?!" Hazel replied in a snarky tone.
"Soooooory," I sassily replied, "I just had a few questions for the doctor chillax Tara," I said in hopes that it annoyed her more.
"Alright settle down ladies, we will head to the mess hall for dinner and then we will get you your medications in the morning," Manny interrupted. With that we followed her down the long corridor, R and I making sure to not follow to closely to Manny and Tara.
"Did they prescribe you a medication for your memory too?" R questioned, breaking the silence first.
"R I gotta tell you something," I whisper finally feeling like I can fully trust him now, "meet me in the room right after dinner, ok?" I told him.
"Can't you just tell me now?" he all but whined.
"No, it's a secret," I replied glancing at Tara and Manny, to which he just nodded in understanding.
"Here we are," Manny told us as we entered a big cafeteria. There are big lines of tables and chairs set up, it could probably seat 250 people in it, they must have different lunch schedules. "We are only able to grow fruits and vegetables down here but there is a pretty great variety of flavors. After dinner you are free to socialize, however everybody is expected back to their sleeping quarters by ten o'clock. We will meet to get your medications, figure out your class schedules, and then the grand tour at seven thirty tomorrow morning," with that we went our separate ways to go get what we wanted for dinner. I guess playing spot the vegan won't be too hard. The food was really strange looking I don't really recognize many of the fruits or vegetables, so I only grab an apple and a slice of watermelon, I'm not that hungry anyway.
I walk over to sit by Rafael, Tara, a guy, and a girl who look to be around my age. The guy has a pretty athletic build around 6'2 and 190 pounds, he has brown eyes and blond hair. While the girl has dark brown hair, with green eyes, pale skin, and a slight frame, maybe around 5'4 and 130 pounds.
"Hello, I'm Skyler Finley, but you can call me Fin," I say, introducing myself.
The others looked like they were about to introduce themselves bur Rafael cut them off, "Hey I thought only I get to call you Fin?" he asked sounding offended.
"Well you thought wrong," I fired back at him, "but don't worry you are still my best friend," I quickly finish knowing fully well that he was going to make a big deal out of the first part.
"So, what are your names?" I ask them.
"Hi, I'm Vieanna and this is Nathaniel, but everyone just calls him Nate," replied the girl, and the guy just muttered a greeting and continued stuffing his face.
"Are you guys gen Black Ice too?" I asked.
"Yeah, we woke up a few days ago, are you guys?" she continued the conversation.
"Yep," I answered popping the 'P'. We continued to make small talk like how old are, what part of Michigan we are from, and some of the things we are interested in. Vieanna is 17, from somewhere in the upper peninsula, and she wanted to go to school for veterinary science, and Nate is 19, from Jackson, and loves sports, real shocker there.
"Are you guys going to go to the rec, I overheard some other gen Black Icers were going to play some volley ball after dinner, and I don't know about you but I am ready for some physical activity," Nate asked after everyone was finished eating.
"Nate you are always ready for physical activity," Vieanna replied as she rolled her eyes.
"Yeah, I will probably stop by a little later but after all that food I just downed I think I need a nap," R answered patting his stomach.
"Yeah, I think I will come back later with R," I added as I got up to take care of my dishes. Rafael and I just walked back in content silence.
