Thomas laid in his sleeping bag that night thinking about the food he just had. It was delicious. But he was also thinking about his journey ahead. What would they find beyond the forest? Who would they find? Would they find out where they are in this world, what continent, what country they were in? So many questions floated around his mind he found it overwhelming. Thomas got up and went for a walk in the cool night.
It was maybe an hour since Thomas left and he just realised that he had made his way to the edge of the forest. He was up high on a hill and before him lie a green expanse of grass, trees and bushes, just like the other side but without the lake. Thomas was disappointed, but he was just about to turn back around into the forest when something caught his eye. A light. Right on the horizon line. He looked closer and could just make out the roof of a house. Shuck. He thought. There really are other people living out here. His mind started spinning on him. Maybe it was WICKED...No. He couldn't jump to conclusions. He hoped it was just a town that could lend a few supplies to him and the people he bought out here. Or maybe they could be cranks. Thomas almost forgot about the cranks and what he went through under the town in the Scorch. He and Brenda were ambushed by a heap of cranks wanting to eat their noses. He also remembered the gruesome act he committed. He killed a human being. That man before he caught the flare was a sane human, with a family and friends. And he killed him. Thomas knew he was overthinking and that this walk did not help him so he decided to walk back to camp. He'll tell the others about his discovery tomorrow, but for now he needed rest.
