I struggled uselessly. "Cas!" I yelled. He was my only hope at this point. "Castiel! Help!"
Alastair laughed at my cries. "That cockroach angel? He's not gonna help you. He can't. No one can."
I glared at him. "Yeah, make sure you tell him that when he shows up and smites your black-eyed ass!" I started to crawl back away from him, yelling, "Cas!"
Alastair's laughter was cut short by the gust of wind that accompanied Castiel's appearance. He appeared in front of me, saying, "We have to go," before touching my forehead.
I heard Alastair's voice yell, "No," in the background. Cas and I suddenly appeared in Sam and Dean's room in Bobby's house.
Dean was there, too. He had this haunted look in his green eyes that broke my heart. We both sat up quickly, at the same time.
Castiel was standing at the foot of the beds. He was turned away from us, a distant look on his face. "I couldn't stop any of it," Dean told Cas. His voice was tight with regret and pain. "She still made the deal, and she still died in the nursery, didn't she?"
I looked at him, confused. What had happened when I was gone? What had he seen that could have shaken Dean Winchester, one of the strongest people I knew, to the core like this?
But I already knew the answer, probably something similar to what I had seen.
Castiel sighed before answering, "Don't be too hard on yourselves, you couldn't have stopped it, neither of you."
Dean stood up, asking, "What?"
"Destiny, can't be changed, Dean. All roads lead to the same destination."
Dean questioned, "Then why did you send us back?'
"For the truth," Cas answered plainly. "Now you know everything that we do."
"What the hell are you talking about?"
Cas simply looked over at Sam's empty bed. A flash of memory shot through me as I remembered noticing it when I came in.
"Where's Sam?" Dean asked.
"We know what Azazel did to your brother, what we don't know is why. What his end game is. He went to great lengths to cover that up."
"Where's Sam?" Dean demanded again.
"425 Waterman." Dean began to gather his leather jacket and keys, but I felt rooted to the spot. I wasn't ready to function properly yet. "Your brother is headed down a dangerous road, Dean. We're not sure where it leads." Castiel paused, "Stop him, or we will." Cas's unwavering gaze was intimidating, and I wasn't even the one on the receiving end. Dean held his gaze for a moment before plunging through the doorway. I got up and started to follow, but Cas stopped me with a hand on my shoulder.
"What?" I asked, half annoyed.
"You had to see that," Castiel told me.
I was still angry. "Yeah, whatever." I began to leave, shrugging his hand roughly off my shoulder.
"So you would agree with my next proposition."
That stopped me dead in my tracks. "What?" I spat, beyond angry.
Castiel remained perfectly calm, stepping towards me. "You think your freedom was free?"
I was shaking with anger by now. "Free?" I growled. "So, giving up my dad wasn't enough for you bastards?"
Castiel sighed. "That was... regrettable. But, no, it was not."
"You better tell me what the hell you are talking about or I'm leaving," I threatened, taking a half step back toward the door.
