Chapter 2 - Death

Hearing that familiar yet slightly different voice, Xiao Jingyue's body slightly trembled. She shakily whispered in a hoarse voice, "L-Li Jun...?"

The person pulled her closer to him as he placed his head between her neck, "Mhm, it's me. It's okay now, I'm here."

For the first time in five years, tears slipped out of her eyes. Xiao Jingyue hugged him tightly and cried out her grievances. These years of being raped incessantly, she had repeatedly called out his name within her heart, over and over again.

However, no one replied. There was no news and he had not made an appearance. All these years, Xiao Jingyue had thought that he had already died. Perhaps, it was that night. The night before her marriage.

After some time, she had finally calmed down. That was when Xiao Jingyue noticed something amiss. She quickly grabbed his right sleeve, however, the right arm she was expecting to hold was gone.

Her face went pale, "W-what happened to your arm?"

Before Li Jun could reply, they heard the bells ringing outside and loud footsteps running towards their room.

He took off his cloak and wrapped it around Xiao Jingyue to cover her body before he grabbed her hand, "There's no time for explanation. We need to quickly get out of here."

As they secretly tried to escape the sect, Xiao Jingyue looked at the right sleeve that was flapping around against the wind. "You are heavily injured, you should escape. I'm already very happy to know that you're alive and that you have tried to save me."

He tightened his grip on her hand, "No, we must both escape here together."

When they reached the side entrance, they could not get out as the sect had already activated their protective barrier. The sect's disciples would arrive any minute now.

Li Jun looked around and found a hidden spot. He then pushed Xiao Jingyue towards that place before taking out a concealment talisman from his storage ring then activating it.

"I will lure them away from here first, then I'll come back to pick you up. If... If I do not return in one shichen (two hours), then you should leave before they capture you."

As he was about to turn and leave, Xiao Jingyue grabbed his left hand and shook her head. She had just met him again; she does not want to lose him. "Why... why are you doing so much for me? Is it because I am your master?"

When he heard this, he froze for a bit before he grabbed the back of her head and pulled her towards his chest. Then he wrapped his arm tightly around her waist.

Amidst the noise and chaos, Xiao Jingyue could hear the quickening of his heartbeat and as she smelled his familiar scent, she felt so safe and relaxed.

Jingyue felt a light kiss on her forehead before he tilted her head to face him. His black eyes stared at her as he replied, "I didn't save you because you were my master. I saved you because you are the woman I love."

She tightened her grip on his robe, "But I'm dirty. I've been defiled."

"No matter how you turned out, you are still my Jingyue. I will forever love you."

"Li Jun..." His thumb rubbed her lip slightly before he leaned down to give her the world's gentlest kiss. It was a fleeting kiss, but she treasured it very much.

"If we were to both make it out of here alive, we will go to a place where no one will know and live a peaceful life. Far away from all this chaos."

Xiao Jingyue teared up and nodded her head, "Mhm."

He gave her a soft smile before checking that everything was in place, he left to lure the disciples away from there.

Xiao Jingyue stood still, watching as his figure grew smaller and blended into the darkness. Li Jun was someone her father had bought from the slave business when she was younger. As they grew up together, he had treated her with affection and indulged her, so she thought that he had only seen her as a younger sister.

She never realized that he had feelings for her. When did it start?

As she stood there anxiously, she heard fighting noises getting closer and then a figure flew over and dropped down not too far away from her hiding spot.

When Xiao Jingyue saw who it was, she was shocked and wanted to run towards him, however, he shook his head slightly while he grabbed his chest and coughed out a mouthful of blood.

The elders of the sect arrived, and she saw Yifeng standing next to the Sect Master.

"Li Jun, how dare you come here? Where did you hide my wife?"

Xiao Jingyue felt sick to her stomach when he called her his wife. Whose husband would send his wife to their father and elders of the sect to be a plaything?

"Li Jun, I'll ask you again. Where did you hide my wife? If you do not tell us where you hid her, even if you were her shadow guard, I won't show any leniency!"

When she saw Yifeng preparing to unleash his strongest skill, she hurriedly ran out of the concealment barrier towards Li Jun.

When Chen Yifeng saw her appearance, his face became ugly, but it was too late to stop. If he were to forcibly stop his attack, it would rebound and cause him to be internally injured.

Right when Yifeng was a few steps away from Li Jun, she arrived between them and the attack smashed right onto her left chest.

She could feel her bones being crushed and her meridians tearing apart as both her and Li Jun coughed out mouthfuls of blood.

"Jingyue... why did you come out?!"

She turned her head towards him and weakly raised her hand towards his face, Li Jun grabbed it and helped put her hand on his cheek as his eyes watered. "Since you were going to die, then for what reasons do I have left to live...? We might as... well die together."

Her eyelid felt heavy and slowly the light was fading out of her eyes, "If this lifetime was meant to be, let it be. Hopefully, we will meet again in the next and this time, I will forever love you."

Before she lost consciousness forever, she felt him kiss her forehead once more and heard him softly whisper, "Mhm.. we will meet again, for sure."

At the moment of their death, a powerful shock wave spread out in all directions from the middle of the continent, the mysterious Water Kingdom. However, it went by unnoticed by all, as if the shock wave that had disrupted time and space was all just an illusion.
