Ryker Jones let out a howl. It was more of a gutter scream, but Ryker told Mary Jane that it was a howl. Something about getting into character.

Mary waited for him to stop. When his lungs finally drained, he hung his head in defeat.

"It's over, Mary. That was my last idea to attack Heron. And if we had been successful, it would have come with so many more... We've run into a brick wall. The Hyenas aren't going anywhere." He was trembling, arms and head hanging. Mary had never seen him this shaken before.

She placed her hand on his arm. "You know what's best about brick walls?" With her other hand, she pulled his chin up. "There are plenty of handholds."

His eyes were wary, the gold color standing out from his shock of white hair and his white labcoat. She met the look with a smirk, her own steel-grey eyes glittering.

She pulled out a small bag from her own labcoat. Inside was a single strand of hair, black as night.
