The Hunger Games

Chapter four

"The male tribute four District twelve is..." Effie opens the slip.

My heart pumps so fast, I feel like I'm gonna pass out. There's so many things going through my head right now. Ray might volunteer. Michael might volunteer. Peter might volunteer. And they're all gonna be thinking the same thing. None of them will speak up until the other two have.. so maybe they'll all shut up.

"Peter Everdeen." Effie beams.

One boy ruled out. Michael yells, "I volunteer!" Obviously thinking Ray wouldn't.

"I volunteer!" Ray shouts after Michael. So the final one was Ray. Ray with his young looks... his cute smile. His dark eyes, tanned skin. Spiky hair... I sigh, holding back tears.

"Well, you know what?" A new male voice calls from close to Ray and Michael, "I volunteer."

Then silence. Ray, Michael and Peter all have stunned faces as they stare at the eighteen year old boy emerge from the crowd. His hair is spiky, brown. His eyes are a chocolaty brown that matches his hair without even trying to. His face looks like it was carved by angels. So handsome, that I struggle to look away from him. I focus on his lips. Pinkish-red, smirking ever so slightly with a smug look. But, over all, very kissable. I erase the thought from my mind. No. You're about to go into an arena with this boy to kill everyone in there. If you fall in love, none of you are leaving. The boy stands on the other side of Effie.

"What's your name?" She asks the boy.

"Aaron Torez is the name." He says confidently.

Confident.. Cocky... I could get to terms with this hottie. What am I thinking?! I shake all thoughts of him from my brain, afraid of what I'll come to. Two bodies intertwined... NO! I am not coming to a conclusion like that! I shudder.

"Shake hands you two." Effie prods.

I'm slow to react. Aaron grabs my hand and shakes it. His touch sends sensations going up through my arm, then all the way up my body. I look up at his face. Whoa... I look at his tall, muscly figure.. Whoa whoa... I forget to let go of his hands, and quickly pull my hand away.

Damn... I'm going into the games with a boy I've fallen in love with at first sight..
