You had gotten to the outpost about a month ago, about the time the apocalypse started. You were one of the lucky few who were able to survive and you were grateful for this opportunity. When everyone first arrives they are sorted into either the purples, the elite, or the greys, the servants to the purples. Somehow you were fortunate enough to be sorted into the purple. Suddenly a figure rose from the darkness in the hallways, interrupting the choas that had broken out. "I am Wilhemina Venable, Welcome to outpost three." The woman said. She was beautiful and dressed in all black, red hair that was tightly pulled up, and had a cane in her left hand. Her weight was evenly distributed between her cane and her feet. "You shall only address me as Ms. Venable." she continued as you sgtared in awe. She had to be one of the most beautiful creatures you had ever seen. Ms.Venable continued to go over the rules of the outpost but you didn't really listen, you were to entranced by her beauty. She may seem very strict and cruel but there is something about her, something that she is hiding, you imagined it had to do with her disability or the reason she had the cane. "Now the purples must wear purple and the greys must wear grey. Purples, follow me and I will show all of you to your rooms. They have been previously determined for you by the Cooperation.". She continued to walk, her cane clicking against the floor with every step she took. Every person was shown to their room, slowly the group continued to become smaller and smaller until it was just you.
"This is your room, your wardrobe is over their and this is what you will be required to wear for dinner." As she showed you around you saw more and more of her beauty, noticing how the dress hugged her curves in just the right ways. "We have a strict schedule. Dinner is at six sharp and after we shall decide who does the book reading.". Before the apocalypse, you loved reading, very moment you could spare was spent at the library, mainly in the fiction area. "Okay, I have one question, Ms.Venable." you said causing her to turn around to face you. "Proceed.". "You said there were two divisions, the purples and the greys. I assume you are a purple but you aren't wearing purple.". She is clothed in black, confusing you on the orders and her status. "I am neither a grey or a purple, I was not chosen to be one of the saved, I was chosen to maintain the order among the saved.". She didn't really show any emotion but you could sense there was something going on. "If you have no other questions then I will leave you to get ready, tardiness is not acceptable when there is nothing else to do.". She turned to leave but you had to ask her one more thing. "Actually, I'm very sorry, but I do have one more question. I don't know how to tie up a corset, I haven't really worn clothes like these before.". The corset was a weird contraption to you and the idea of wearing one was appaling but if you had to wear one you might as well learn how to. "It's not that difficult, these aren't the complicated ones." she walked over to her wardrobe and picked up a white corset that was meant to be worn under the clothes. "This one goes on after your undergarments but before your dress. This is the front. All you have to do is use the hooks to fasten it." she continued to demonstrate. "Now you must get ready, you are still expected to be at the dinning hall at six.". Ms. Venable left the room and the sounds of her cane became less and less audible. You dressed yourself in the clothes you were required to wear, still struggling with the corset. It was like a less fance ball gown, very poofy and innconvenient. After you made your way down to the dinning hall and saw all of the others gathered. It was loud and noisy, the one thing you hated just as much as the choas taking place.
As you sat at the end of the table near two empty seats, you heard the leader of the outpost speak. "Tonight is your first meal here." the greys served the food and all there was was a cube, sort of reminding you of jello. "Because of limited resourse this shall be all you have.". One of the blondes stood up to protest but Ms.Venable slapped her across the face, knocking her to the ground. "This is all we have, unless you would rather be outside dying from the monsters and the radiation." She said sternly before sitting down in the seat next to you. You weren't one for conversation so you just ate in silence before leaving to look around the outpost. You needed to get away from the noise and the choas, that's when you stubled into the library. It wasn't anything extrodinary but it had shelves of books, some were just dusty and others had the binding falling off, at least it was something. You knew you were going to be here for a while so you needed something to get your mind off of Ms.Venable. You found many classics and your favourite book, It was a collection of Edgar Allen Poe. Somehow you must have been really distracted because you never heard the sound of Venable's cane as she entered the room. When she tapped your shoulder you almost screamed. You had no clue anyone else was down there. "Ms.Venable, I am so sorry, it was to noisy for me so I decided to look around and found this place." you tried to explain. "I don't care about that, I agree the noise was overwhelming.". Now you were confused. "Then what is the matter Ms.Venable? Is something wrong." you asked. "You aren't like most Ms. Starr.". This was something you had already known, you never seemed to fit in anywhere you went. "How do you mean?". "Well, any of the others would have run off when I entered the room, you stayed and are choosing to talk to me. Also, everyone is rioting against my rules but you don't seem to mind them.". You didn't understand how this was different. "Why would anyone run away from you. You are just like one of us, except you do much more than anyone here. The rules you made are to keep us safe." You said honestly hoping not to offend her. "Interesting." she scanned your eyes, your were unsure of what she was looking for but you blushed at her gaze. "What book do you have?" She questioned as she grasped the books in your hands, her soft hands brushed against yours and for a moment it seemed like she was holding your hand. Neither of you flinched at the sudden contact. You could feel your knees growing weaker, threatening to give out. "The complete works of edgar allen poe, nice choice in literature.". She removed her hand from yours and returned it to her cane with urgency. The smile seemed to fade from her face. "Ms.Venable, are you okay? Is there something wrong?" You asked reaching out your hands prepared to catch her if she falls. "No no I'm fine. I just need to go sit down." She said calmly, you could tell she was in pain. "Here let me help you." You insisted, putting your arm around her so she couldn't refuse your help. Slowly you walked her to the nearest chair carefully setting her down. "You didn't have to do that, I am fine." She tried to use her stern voice that would make anyone fear her. "No your not. It's okay to need help every once in a while Ms.Venable.". No one had ever said that to her before, no one had ever shown her kindness either. She was speechless. "I think it is getting late, do you need me to help you get to your room?" You asked kindly. "No, I should be fine, it is just down the hall.". When she pointed to her room, you saw that her room was the one next to yours. "Nonsense, my room is right next to yours, let me walk you to it." The way you said it, you weren't giving her much of a choice. "Ms.Starr, I would watch your tone. Don't forget, I am in charge." she said in her stern, cold voice. "Ms.Venable, I mean no disrespect. I am just worried, If you continue to push yourself past your limits you could injure yourself further, please accept my help. I am not judging you, I just don't like seeing you in the pain ou are currently in." You explained kneeling in front of her, taking one of her hands subconsciously into your own. As you looked into her eyes for further approval, you saw emotions, her cold expressions seemed to fade just for a second. "Okay." she stated simply with an almost inaudible whisper. "Alright.". You stood up and took both of her hands putting one over your shoulder to help her into a standing position. Mainly she leaned on you only using her cane for a little extra support. The sound of her cane on the floor was almost non-existent. Slowly both of you walked, letting her set the pace of your steps until you got to the door of her room. "Okay, I am going to open the door and walk you to the bed, if that is okay with you.". You let her know what you were going to do and made sure she was okay with it, she trusted you enough to get her this far and you didn't want to lose that. As you looked over you saw her give you a slight nod. You slowly opened the dark wooden door, leading Ms.Venable through the entrance. "Only a few more steps.". you continued to walk over to her bed, neatly made with violet covers on top. Very gently you set her down making sure she wasn't going to fall over. "Okay, there you are Ms.Venable. I hope you feel better in the morning." You said with a smile before you turned to exit her room. "Ms. Starr, don't mention this to anybody." She said very sternly trying ro get rid of any emotion or vulnerability in her voice. "Please." the woman on the bed added, letting a tear fall to her cheek. The one thing she hated the most was being seen like this, vulnerable and helpless. "You don't have to ask that of me Ms.Venable. I would never tell. That is not my place. Good night, get some rest." You said before leaving her room and going to your own.
For hours you sat on your bed thinking about the type of life she went through before the apocalyspe, what people said to her and how they treated her. People were always cruel and unkind, they mock those they see as different then them. Every moment you sat their thinking about what she might have gone through, your feelings for her grew. You knew you have a major crush on her but you also know that it can never happen, she is the leader and you are just a random person she barely knows. Pullingthe covers over your head, you tightly closed your eyes trying your best to fall asleep, trying to forget about all of the events that just took place. Eventually it worked, you fell into a deep slumber only waking up a few times during the night.
