Until the very End

The day hasn't yet started for anyone else in the bunker even though it seemed that this day should be just about over. You are currently standing in Wilhemina's room listening as she gave you intructions that you were expected to follow for the day, everyday. It isn't anything different than you expected, cleaning the bathroom, giving food when she requested it, maybe start reading after dinner, as well as other very basic tasks. "It is almost time for everyone to start heading down to the dinning hall. In a few minutes we will start walking." she says giving you a small smile. Damn she is so beautiful when she smiles. you think to yourself. "Okay. Is there anything else you need me to do durng the day?" you ask. "I don't believe so. You shall just stay by my side at all times.". Staying with her all day eveyday is the best thing that could happen. You hated being away from her. "Wait, what about Ms.Mead, won't she suspect anything?". Ms.Mead actually terrified you. Something about her was off, she never displayed emotion and everything about her seemed cold, like killing people was just a task needing to be accomplished or something to do when bored. "I can take care of her don't worry Ember. I have thought over this a million times, nothing is going to go wrong, not while you are by my side." The redhead speaks as she places on of her small hands on your shoulder, reassuring you that what she told you is true. If she says nothing will happen you believe her. There is never a doubt on any word she speaks. "I love you Wilhemina." you wrap your arms around her. At first she is taken by suprise but then lets herself melt in your embrace. "I love you too Ember, I love you more than life itself.". A moment of silence passes as you two just take in this moment, a very special moment, before you hear many footsteps. "That must be our cue to start making our way to the dinning hall." Mina chuckles as she pulls away from the embrace. You smile and follow her as she walks out of the room and down to breakfast, the sound of her cane hitting the marble floors echo through the outpost. Then she stops in her tracks infront of the table. She needed to make her presence known so she bangs her cane twice and everyone silences themselves in response. "Now that I have your attention, I have an announcement to make. This is Ember, she is my assistant. You shall treat her with respect. Also, Mallory, dear, you shall no longer serve anyone.". No cared much or they didn't show it. Why would they care though, they are only interested in things that deal with them specifically. The only one who cared was Coco, only because she lost her assistant she she would have to do things on her own. "What about me, I lost my assistant. I need a new assistant." the blonde stands as she protests. "Stop bellowing like a child, you are old enough to do things on your own." Venable condescends. The rooms once again falls silent and you walk with Mina to your seat, but before that you bring her food. Of course there is another fight that breaks loose and Coco again is the cause. It wasn't a physical fight, she just starts verbally attacking you. "Why does she get to sit at the table with us. She is a servant, a slave, like a pathetic dog begging for scraps." you are used to being treated like this, everyone else before the start of the apocalypse regarded you in this manner. Might as well have been normal human interaction. The blonde's next words are what push you off the edge. "What a worthless slut, I bet she spreads her legs for any person who walks by.". It became hard for you to breath and the world started to spin. You had to leave, so you sprint out of the room to the first place you think of, the library. Hiding behind the bookshevles, everything intensifies. First your breathing, then the many tears fall down your cheeks. Your knees are to your chest. In this moment you feel so helpless, so worthless, a word that you haven't used to describe yourself since you and Wilhemina became a thing. "Ember, Ember?" you can hear Mina yell before she finds you on the floor. "Ember, I'm so sorry. Come here baby." She lowers herself and sits on the ground next to your with her cane to the side. "Follow my breathing. Slowly in and out." she moves you into her lap and pushes your head closer to her chest. Things still weren't improving but the candle flames grew larger all in sink. "That stupid blonde won't be an issue anymore darling, I have taken care of her.". Something inside of you makes you think that she is either dead or beaten so badly she wishes she were dead. "Darling, I love you so much. I hate seeing you in pain." she speaks breaking a moment of silence after you start calming down. "I love you too.". you whisper, you felt so weak. When Wilhemina helped you stand up you suddenly feel sick to your stomach, then everything goes black.
     Your whole body is numb but you can still hear what is going on in the world around you. You can hear Mina crying, begging you to wake up and as much as you tried to, it felt impossible. "Please stay with me." were the last words you hear before you are surround by silence and darkness. Then you start to open your eyes and don't recognize your surroundings. The walls where an off white colour and this place was light compaired to the other rooms hidden in the outpost. You tried to sit up but an arm kept you from moving. "Stay still Ember. You need a few minutes before you are allowed to sit up." Ms.Venable's voice was suprisingly calm, so calm it sounded forced. "Where am I?" you question, your voice very raspy and your throat dry. "In the clinic, just down the hall from the library.". Feeling starts coming back to you. Your arms and legs are not numb anymore so you decide to sit up. "What happened?" Suddenly you become very alert. "Ember, you fainted. But there is something else that you must know." Mina hesitates which infuriates you. "What? Just spit it out." You have never snapped like this before and instantly feel bad. "I'm sorry, I don't know why I snapped." You quickly follow. "Ember, your pregnent. About six months along. I have no idea how this is possible or why you aren't showing at all. You are carrying a baby girl.". Her words pierce through you like knives. " I can't keep her Mina, I can't have a baby during the apocalypse. I don't want to give birth just for her to die a painful death from the outside world.". Truthfully you had always wanted a baby, but you knew how this child was concieved, you knew the fate it had. "You don't have a choice sweet girl. We don't have anything to terminate and it is too late. This child must be born. Maybe in three months things will be different, maybe the world will be safe to return to." She caresses your cheek as she speaks, bringing you a sense of comfort. "What will the others say? I don't think hiding my baby is a viable option." More secrets pile up, each one very important that needs to be kept. "As long as I am with you no one will say anything sweet girl. I will always be by your side, with you until the very end.". She wraps her arms around you, engulfing you in her tight embrace. One you never want to leave.
