"Hey, _____, wake up!" you felt someone nudge you, "We're here."

Where?

You groaned as your eyes fluttered open, drowsily scratching your head before looking at your aunt. You were just about to ask her but stopped when you realized that the car was no longer moving. Immediately, you turned the other way to look outside the window.

You had reached just in time for sunset, the sky was a mixture of warm hues and all around you were trees and... well, more trees.

All the houses looked the same, old, with red-bricked roofs and tiled walls. Everything had a very natural and homely feel to it.

"Is this-?" you turned towards your aunt and inquired, still in awe with what you had seen.

"Yes, your grandmother's house should be just down this lane..." she trailed. You were quite perturbed by the way your aunt always spoke about your grandmother, as if the woman wasn't her mother as well.

She slowly drove further and parked into the driveway of a similar-looking house which you assumed was your grandmother's. It was nothing fancy, just like the rest of the town, but still reasonably big for just one person.

You could occasionally feel the stares directed towards you, obviously, with so less of a population, people would easily recognize new faces.

"Go ring the bell or something." said your aunt, much to your confusion, "I'll get the bags in the meanwhile."

You grabbed the container of cookies you had brought for your grandmother and walked towards the main door tentatively, slinging your backpack over your shoulder.

Hesitantly, you rang the bell after mentally preparing a speech you waited. After about five minutes... you were still waiting. You rung the bell again and this time you heard a loud bang from the other side of the door, instantly getting concerned.

The door swung open to reveal a scowling old woman with a cane in her hand; your grandmother. You were intimidated by the cane in her grasp that you didn't notice her frown deepen.

"What?" she snapped, briefly glancing at the container in your hands, making you jump in surprise.

"I-"

"I don't have sugar."

She slammed the door shut on your face.

What. The. Actual. Fuck.

You had no time to even wonder whatever just happened for your aunt stumbled next to you, visibly out of her breath.

"You're still out here?" she asked, ringing the bell once more. You shrugged at her.

The door cracked open again and your scowling grandmother peeked out, "Wha- Oh." her lips formed an o-shape when she spotted your aunt, "It's you." she stated with a disinterested tone in her voice.
