08 | convenience store

After their little rendezvous and the movie, they went to a small convenience store by the highway. The store had one person inside, and that person was literally the cashier, who was probably a college student looking for money.

Taeyong and Jaehyun ignored the boy though, it was an evening for only the two of them anyways.

They sat on the tables by the side. Jaehyun stood up and raised a brow at Taeyong, "what do you want?" Taeyong smiled as his eyes roamed around the small store.

"I don't know, anything you get," Taeyong replied, making Jaehyun flustered for a second. Jaehyun rummaged around his pocket to get his wallet, he checked the budget he had left.

It was less than five dollars, it was enough for two cups of ramen.

Jaehyun sighed, making sure Taeyong wouldn't hear. I guess I'll have to walk to work today, he thought before heading towards the self filled with instant ramen. He quietly searched for the ramen he always liked eating. Jin ramen.

He smiled upon spotting the red cup on top of all the others, he reached his hand out for it, taking two cups. He checked the price, two dollars.

That leaves me with one dollar then.

He ignored the thought and went towards the counter. The boy was writing down his homework from what Jaehyun could see.

Jaehyun cleared his throat, successfully getting the boy's attention.

Jaehyun raised a brow.

Wait, isn't he—

"Uhm, sir? Will you be buying the ramens?" The boy asked, Jaehyun nodded, his eyes were wide as he stared at the boy's face. He was oddly familiar, but Jaehyun couldn't remember who he was.

"Jaehyun?" Taeyong went towards him, "I'll pay for tonight, you already—" Taeyong cut himself off upon seeing the boy's face.

Like Jaehyun, his eyes widened as he stared at the boy.

"N-Na Jaemin?" A gasp escaped Jaehyun's lips in realization, the boy in front of him was Choi Siwon's adopted son, Na Jaemin! He needed to make a good impression on Jaemin, if he can do that, then maybe Choi Siwon would treat him a bit.. kind..?

"How do you know my name?!" Jaemin screamed, at the end of his question, his voice cracked. Jaehyun held back his laughter, Taeyong ignored the voice crack though.

"Aren't you Professor Choi's son?" Taeyong questioned, Jaemin raised a brow and nodded.

"Wait, your his student?!"

"Yes. Wait— why are you even working here?!"

Jaemin gulped, "wait, don't tell Dad about this, please," Jaemin exclaimed. "If he finds out that I'm still working here, my whole existence will disappear!"

Taeyong's jaw dropped, "why?"

Jaehyun just watched the scene unfold, he was speechless. He had a lot of questions in his mind, but he didn't bother speaking it out.

"Well, you see," Jaemin nervously started, "I've been working here even before Dad— or who you might know as Professor Choi, adopted me," he explained, but it sounded like he was rapping. "He actually found me back when I was in Busan, since I stayed there for a short while, then I moved here with him. Ever since I moved here to Seoul, I have been working in this store."

"Why don't you go home?" Jaehyun finally asked.

Jaemin shrugged, "why not?"

"Anyways, I heard your close to Jeno?" Taeyong asked, he remembered how Jeno told them about Jaemin and that they were the best of the best friends.

"Ah yes! No Jam!" Jaemin grinned, "he's super boring to be with since he always ruins the happy go lucky vibe I have," Taeyong frowned, but Jaemin ignored it and continued, "but that's what I like about him, he's unique!"

Then Taeyong smiled. "Really?"

Jaemin smiled as he nodded.
