Chapter 3 -- Say Hey

I squinted my eyes in the dark cave, searching for any light at all so I knew that had something at all to look at besides darkness. I had never felt so alone in my life. Not having the ability to see anything at all in the pitch-black cave didn't help much, either. Of course, I could hear my own shallow breaths, the rustling of my clothes as I struggled against the rope that bounded me to whatever flat surface I was lying down on, and even sometimes, I could count my own heartbeats against my shirt.

Thing is, I didn't even see where this cave was. All I know is that it is a cave. At least, I think it's a cave... I heard the guy say something earlier about a cave, so I'm not completely sure about it. I must have blacked out in mid-air when that creepy guy still had me. Just like I only think I am on a table.

In an instance, a blinding white light pierced through the darkness, and I could partially see, with some effort, the silhouette of a grown -but still young- woman in a tight clubbing dress, stilettos, and with her hair volumized exactly to modern style and down to her waist. Winding spiderwebs of light reflecting off of water danced across the cave walls, making a soft show. I blinked my eyelids in slight pain from the sudden light, for my eyes hadn't adjusted just yet. The rope, binding me to the hard marble table, roughly grazed the skin of my wrists, throat, and ankles.

"So, you must be that girl that has rumors going around," came an attractive femal voice. She was probably around in her twenties or early thirties, but there was a hint of something that suggested years of knowledge and discernment etched in.

"What rumors?" I questioned, confused about what might have been going on my whole life.

"Nobody has told you yet?" she smiled mischeviously.

"...no...?" I looked at her sideways, as curiosity settled in just like in the infamous horror movies of modern taste. My heart was beating, and my breaths continued shallowy.

"Do you want to know what they are? If you wanna' know, you can just ask me while I'm here. My shift to watch you is like," she paused, seeming to think about it for a minute. She twirled a lock of blond hair around her right index finger, "about two weeks, give or take a few days."

My eyebrows raised with mixed emotions, "Sure," I closed my eyes for a second and yawned with sleep deprivation, "do tell."

The woman chuckled and stated, "Well, some believe you are the Great Dhampyresa. The Chosen One. The dhampyr that will enslave all vampyre slayers, human and dhampyr alike, and rid the world of vampyres forever," she said curtly.

"What's a 'dhampyr' supposed to be? Should I know?" I asked, honestly curious.

"Half-vampyre and half-human, duh," she replied, "oh, I'm sorry. Where are my manners?" The, as I can now see, blond walked from where she was before, to the side of the table. "I'm Le-ah," she smiled devilishly. Walking around to the other side of the table, she flipped her hair and chuckled.

I stared her down as she mumbled something along the lines of, "this should be fun."

"What are you talking abo--" another figure came and blocked the open doorway.

"He changed his mind. He said to just keep her incarcerated. She doesn't know what she's doing... just saying, in case you didn't notice," came a low voice that reminded me of Arnold Swarzennegger. The burly figure stepped closer, stopped halfway in between Le-ah and the door, and stood like a body guard would.

Despite my attempts at staying quiet, a small puppy whine escaped my lips as my jaw dropped. Incarcerated? I don't know what that means, but it definitely doesn't sound like I have much freedom.

"B-but..." Le-ah muttered under her breath and groaned.

A moment later, the man was untying the scraggly ropes that held me to the table, and he snapped a thick bracelet around my ankle.

"What's going on?" I asked, with my heartbeats gaining speed and my breaths coming faster. I want to go home...

"Training.
