"And here I was thinking Simon's suggestion wouldn't work."
Quinn frowned at him in the darkness of the car as they sped along. "What do you mean?"
"When I told him I'd tried everything to save our marriage, he told me to give the grand sweeping gesture a go," Gray said.
"Oh. Why would you think it wouldn't work?"
"Because I know you too well. You don't like superficial things."
"Well that is true, but I have to admit, I liked being swept off my feet."
Gray reached across and squeezed her hand. "God, I can't wait to get you back home."
"Me too."
It was a short drive back to Vaucluse, but if Gray's erratic driving was anything to go by then he was as desperate to be home as her. There was a short silence in the car before Gray spoke again.
"Will you promise to stay there this time? With me?"
"Yes, Gray, I promise."
He glanced across at her. "Not that I'm complaining, but what finally changed your mind?" Quinn started to laugh. "What?" Gray asked, a slightly worried expression on his face.
"It was your parents, more specifically, your dad."
"What?" he said and Quinn was beginning to think it was the only word in his vocabulary right now.
"Your parents came to see me. They said that they didn't want to be the ones who stood in the way of us being together."
"Wow," Gray said. "Dad really was serious about burying the hatchet."
"What?" Now it was Quinn's turn to exercise a limited vocabulary.
"Since he's discovered that he's dying, he's become a big softie. He told me that if I loved you then I should make it work."
"Evie noticed that, too," Quinn said. "Maybe his advice is right."
"Dad, although he has his faults, is usually right about a lot of things. He is a sage man."
"Well, maybe we should listen to him."
"I can't believe my parents are the ones who made you change your mind."
"It wasn't just that. I decided I don't want to be without you. I love you."
"I love you, too. And this time I'm going to make it work, that is my promise."
"It's okay, Gray. I know how busy you are."
"But I'm not going to take on any new projects anymore. I'll just focus on the ones I've got."
"And what about all those women?"
Gray shrugged. "You'll just have to learn to trust me on that one."
"I do trust you. It's just that some of these women are so determined. Like Lina."
"Lina's been fired."
"She has!"
"I discovered she works for my brother. She was spying on my company. Hopefully, with her gone, there won't be any more attempts at a hostile takeover."
"No more attempts at destroying our marriage either?" Quinn asked.
"No."
"Your brother really wants me gone, though. He's very determined."
"I won't let him hurt us, not now."
"You know I read an article the other day about CEO's having the same personality traits as a serial killer."
