Jake had you running up so many flights of stairs. You were unable to breath but he was so excited that you tried your best to keep up. Eventually he paused, huffing and puffing but not nearly as much as you.

"Jake, I gotta stop" You said between heavy breaths.

"Hey, sweetie, if you put your hands up and don't bend over, you will catch your breath faster" He moved your arms from where you had put them on your knees to your hips. You still wanted to fall over. You looked wearily up at him.

"Why are we doing this?" You let out a tired laugh. "Jake, I have been working hard all day and really just want a calm night"

"I might be a little excited about this surprise." You opened your mouth to speak but Jake put his hand up and stopped you. "I know you don't like surprises but this one is nice."

You smiled; he knew you so well. You liked to be prepared and he often gave you this option if he could. He turned to look up the stairs.

"Very few people, too." He smiled over his shoulder at you. "We are so close, let's just get there."

You sighed and looked at the ground. He had so much energy and you were so ready to sleep. You started up the stairs again but were not willing to run. You heard Jake jog up the stairs breezily and pause at the top. His hair flopped over the edge of the railing as you looked up. You were quite far behind him.

"Hey! I thought you were closer." He laughed.

"Patience!" You yelled back, "I don't have endurance and you know that" You kept trudging up the stairs and finally made it up to him. Jake hugged you and covered your eyes.

"Ready for the surprise?" Excitement filled his voice and you couldn't help but be excited too.

"Yes, lead me carefully. No funny business" You held onto the hand that he had over your eyes. Then thinking better, you put one hand in front of you to make sure he didn't run you into anything. "Jake, would you please telling me what's going on, you know I don't like heights or surprises."

"Trust me, this is cool" Jake walked you outside and you felt the evening air hit your skin once you were out the door. The door shut behind you. He stopped walking. You moved your head around, even though his hand was still very much across your eyes. Jake laughed and you felt his enthusiasm overflow into you. You wanted to jump up and down.

"Ok, ready?" Jake didn't wait for you to answer but removed his hand after the countdown from three.

He had found a walled in rooftop with plants and gardens. But then you noticed in the middle of the raised beds and greenery was a red and white checkered blanket, a projector and screen, and tons of pillows.

Your hands covered your mouth as you walked slowly towards to romantic setup. The stars were out above you, though just barely with the light pollution. It was the most romantic thing anyone had ever done for you. You turned around to Jake and saw his intrigued smile.

"Do you like it?" He grinned.

"I mean, the stairs weren't worth it," Jake laughed with you. You continued, "This is so cute!" Are we gonna watch a movie?"

Jake nodded.

"Which one?" You looked at him, already hoping you knew his answer.

"Captain America Winter Soldier! What else would we watch?" You laughed at his response.

You jumped up and down and clapped. This was perfect. The walls protected you from the heights, and you were away from the road noise and people. You turned away from Jake to admire his handiwork again. He wrapped his arms around your body. You put your head back on his shoulder and closed your eyes. Tonight was shaping up to be amazing. He nestled his head into your shoulder and kissed your shoulder up into your neck. You looked at the nest he had made and made a small movement that way.

Without speaking Jake understood and lifted you up from behind taking you effortlessly over to the blankets. Finding yourself over the pillows, Jake swung you and flopped you on top of the cushions. You giggled and pulled him down onto you. You initiated the kiss and Jake sunk into it rolling over and wrapping you in his arms. You were too into movies and too aware of prying eyes in taller buildings surrounding you so you pulled away.

"Movie?" You asked innocently. Jake groaned. He was making modesty very difficult right now. You leaned close to his ear and whispered to him, "Once we are home, then you can have your way" He smiled. You looked around and pointed out all of the lit windows that surrounded you higher off the ground. He nodded and rolled off the pile and crawled over to the projector. You had to be honest with yourself and right now that meant checking out his very tight butt. Hmmmm, very nice.

Jake turned around once the movie was started and you two cuddled up neatly together. You loved this movie and could watch it repeatedly. Jake mostly watched you during the movie. You were comfy letting him play with your hair and rub your back while the film finished up.

You heard his stomach growl after you had shared some kettle corn. That had caused laughing for both of you.

"Maybe your stomach was trying to speak whale," you offered between laughs, sending him into another fit of laughter. That earned a shout to quiet down from a nearby window. That sent both of you rolling around the blankets cackling. It is so much harder to stop laughing when you had to be quiet.

When the movie ended, Jake started packing up all of the things he had set up into neat little bags. You helped tidy up, but you weren't ready for the night to end so you pulled up on of your favorite playlists on your phone, monopolizing the stereo system that he had set up. Jake looked up when the soft music started playing.

"Ed Sheeran can make anything more romantic," you looked at Jake and held out your hands in an invitation. He put down the bags he had packed near the door and walked over to you.

You slowly rocked back and forth in his arms. This was the most peaceful you had been in a very long time. You would have stayed that way all night, but your eyes fluttered slightly after a few songs.

"I saw your tired eyes and I won't let you sleep. We have too much to bring down with us for you to fall asleep."

You laughed and pulled yourself away from him.

"How about a standing offer to dance? That way you can continue this whenever you want." Jake smiled over his shoulder as you both trudged toward the door with all of the romantic items he had brought to the roof. After the long walk down the stairs and piling the stuff into the car, Jake drove you both home. You fell asleep and he carried you to bed. The rest of the stuff could wait till tomorrow.
