You heard the door open, but you were mighty focused and may have made a circle of mess around you that prevented you from getting up.

"Hello? Are you home, babe?" Jake called from the front of the house after shutting the door.

"I'm in here!" You yell back but were focused on your creations that you missed when he came into the room. "AHhhh!" You jumped a couple of inches off of the ground when you noticed him so close. Jake laughed and apologized

"I didn't mean to scare you"

"You need a bell around your neck, you are too sneaky" you teased as you laughed. You were too jumpy sometimes.

"What is all of this?" Jake surveyed your mess as you focused closely on the craft in your hands. "Did you go on Pinterest while I was at work?" Jake leaned down to the floor of the living room where you had spread out. You watched as his eyes sorted through all of the things that you had pulled out. You had just finished one of the Christmas ornaments that you were making for friends out of felt. You held it up to show Jake and grinned.

"I made a thing for Christmas!" You were very proud of the work that you had done. It was the first year you hadn't bought a kit to make the ornaments but had cut out the pieces yourself. Jake smiled as he took it from you to inspect.

"Darling, it's July." He chuckled, "Christmas is a bit far out" You laughed.

"I know! But I have free time now and I don't know when I will again. Our schedule fills fast. You both nodded knowingly.

"I guess that makes sense" He shrugged. Jake walked away and you heard him walking up the stairs. Time to focus again. You listened to his footsteps as you worked. It was nice when he was home, the house didn't feel so big. He came back downstairs in a comfy outfit. The sweatpants and t shirt looked nice and better for lounging than the button up and slacks he had been wearing. He walked downstairs and this time you didn't jump when he came into the living room. You kept an eye on his bare feet and he walked around your scattering of felt scraps.

"So how are you organizing this?" Jake looked intrigued.

"Well, these piles over here are the snowman bodies. Next is the accessories like the hat and buttons. The face is that pile over there. The last part is the stuffing and the hook." You explained, pointing to piles as you went. Jake nodded and picked up the pile of face decorations next to you and went into the kitchen. "Where are you taking those faces?!" You had worked very meticulously on those and he was not ruining this. The clanging in the kitchen made you more nervous. Your fingers hurt from the scissors.

"Don't worry, I am keeping them safe." Jake came back over to you with four cookie sheets. "These can help us organize the piles and move them better." Jake carefully had arranged the face parts on one cookie sheet already. "We could move to the table" Jake offered.

"Oooooo, good idea. I like the cookie sheets." You both scooped up the piles and arranged them before heading over to the table. This allowed you to clean up a little as you moved.

Once you were both settled, Jake watched you sew the snowmen very carefully before grabbing a large needle himself.

"Will you show me? I could help the process go faster." Jake looked at you. You smiled. He was so thoughtful and sweet.

"Ok, but you promise to be careful? I can't take responsibility for any sewing accidents as you are a full grown man." You both laughed. You were kind of serious but moved forward nonetheless

You spent the rest of the evening making adorable snowman ornaments for Christmas while Jake regaled you with stories from his work day. Jake was improving but his snowmen were a little lumpy and funny looking. They had a lot of personality and you liked his the best.

"This one doesn't look as good as yours either!" Jake put it in the finished bin rather forcefully and stood up. He went into the kitchen as you removed his latest snowman from the pile. You smiled at it. He was so frustrated but they were so cute.

"Jake, do you know why I'm making ornaments instead of buying them for people?" Jake stopped and turned to look at you.

"It's because you make adorable ornaments and they are nice." He huffed and dropped his head between his arms braced on the kitchen island.

"No, that helps, but no." He looked at you. "I make them because its something directly from me to them. I put time and effort into them. People can feel that, especially people you love. It doesn't matter that yours don't look like mine because what matters is you made them." You put his snowman back in but dug for his first one. You pulled it out and looked at it. Jake got a glass of water and sat back down with you.

"That one is the worst." Jake put his head in his hands. You rubbed his back with one hand and looked at his first craft with the other. You had decided to keep it. The stuffing sticking out and the crooked nose were things that Jake had done. He had done them on accident but he had done them. You loved that.

"I think I'm just going to watch now." Jake raised his head and looked at you.

"Ok, if you want" You left the option open but wanted to respect his space. "Do you wanna make dinner or order in?" You were getting hungry. Jake pulled out his phone.

"How about wings?"

"I like those"

"We'll order in then"

You smiled at him. This was easy, being with him. He caught you staring and smiled back before stealing a kiss. Jake got the food from the door when the delivery came and sorted it in the kitchen while you cleaned up the table. It was a breeze with his cookie sheet hack.

As you cleaned up you grabbed his first snowman again. You picked out your first and walked towards the storage closet and found the bin for ornaments. Those were most definitely going on the tree in December.
