Walking up the stairs to your house, you were surprised you didn't drop anything. This weekend you brought home some work and were hoping to get ahead of a big project you had coming up. You fumbled with the keys and almost dropped them. Once they were in the door you just kind of leaned on the door to open it. Next time you would have to make two trips, that would be much easier.

"Jake! I'm home sweetheart!" You yelled into the house as you stumbled in the door. You were much too focused on the tower of papers in your hands to listen for a response. You grabbed your keys, kicked the door shut behind of you and turned into the home office that you two shared. The papers flopped out of your arms onto the desk making a deep thud as they landed. You sighed. What a relief to have those put down. Next mission was to find your favorite person. You went down the hall into the kitchen and living room to find Jake laying on the couch.

"Hey, hon, how was work?" You walked around the end of the couch as you took off your coat while watching for a response. Jake sighed and put his arm over his eyes. You walked around the front of the couch and sat on the coffee table facing him. You lightly grabbed his arm and lowered it. He let you them looked up at you.

"Publishing sucks." He sighed and sat up to face you. "All you hear is no and I just feel like I could use a win right now" He leaned forward into the hug that you offered him. You held him and felt the tension release from his shoulders.

"I have an idea that might help," you offered. Jake nodded and you continued. "How about I say yes. You get the whole evening of yes." He pulled away and looked at you. You didn't like the little smirk he had on his face.

"Jake, I won't do anything unreasonable or crazy" You wagged your finger slightly. Boundaries are important. He laughed

"Fair enough, I'd hate to ruin something good" He chuckled and pecked your lips before standing up. "Can we start with a backrub?" He rolled his shoulders as you looked up at him.

"Yes," you said grinning. "But you have to sit back down, I'm not that tall." You climbed onto the couch and stood on the cushion to push his shoulders down. Once he was seated again, you sat on the back of the couch above him.

You weren't that good at backrubs, but you did like to feel his muscles, so you did your best. First you used your hands and thumbs but quickly moved to fists. Your fists gave way to using your elbows.

"Woah, less sharp! What are you using, a knitting needle?" He turned to see you laughing with your elbow out. "Put that weapon away!" His mood seemed to be improving. You laughed and gave in.

"It's not my fault that I have sharp bones! I was born like this." You put your hands on his shoulders and dropped your head around his shoulder to look him in the face. He kissed you as you both laughed.

"Would you get back to rubbing?" He said as a teasing command. Softly he added, "Please?"

"Yes." You said with a smile and returned to fists. His back was really tense, you were hoping this helped. After what felt like an eternity, you had to stop. You stopped and wrapped your arms around him in a hug as you slid down the back of the couch to share the cousins with him. You barely fit in between him in the back of the couch but it was cozy. You could stay here for quite a while.

"That's a dangerous place to be!" Jake teased and leaned back slightly.

"No!" You laughed, "You are gonna squish me!" You laughed loudly and that only encouraged him.

"Did you hear something? I didn't, I hear no protesting!" He leaned back as you used all of your strength to push him away. He was too strong for you to resist but you tried anywhere.

"Jake!" You yelped as he squeezed you. He released the vice and turned to hug you. You embraced him and you both laughed as you rocked back and forth in his embrace.

"Alright," he pulled back to look at you, "I have another question for you"

You smiled and nodded.

"Can we have breakfast for supper?" You grinned at his request.

"Yes!" You yelled as you vaulted the back of the couch and leap into the kitchen. "How about pancakes and eggs?" You opened the cabinets to find the ingredients and pans before pulling them and looking back at him for his response.

"That sounds great" Jake said as he turned to lean against the back of the couch.

You pulled out your favorite pancake recipe and got to work. Halfway through you making the batter, Jake moved from the couch to across the island from you. You guys joked about your cooking skills as you started cooking the pancakes. He even opened up about his work frustrations but wasn't as upset as he had been earlier. You were a proponent of talking out emotions instead of letting them build up.

"Alright! Eggs?" You said triumphantly as you finished the last pancake. Jake was already eating some pancakes, so you had to wait for him to swallow before he answered.

"Over hard." You frowned

"That's the worst type!" You teased. You preferred a runny yolk. Jake laughed.

"It's my worst type! Say yes!"

You jokingly glared at the pan then looked at him, "yes."

Jake laughed again and you smiled again. You would do anything to get him to laugh, even if that meant cooking his eggs longer than you thought you should.

You cooked the eggs, one for him and two for yourself before sitting down next to him to eat.

"So, what do you think?" You pried, "Acceptable?" You looked over at him.

"I'm satisfied" Jake smiled at you as he served himself more pancakes from under the towel you used to keep them warm. You loved these moments, when you could sit next to each other and just be.

After you finished eating, Jake looked at you as you cleaned up. He moved to get up to help but you made him sit back down.

"I am cleaning up! You get to not!" You jokingly yelled at him. He smiled then pouted.

"I don't want you to do it all!" He whined.

"Tonight I am helping you feel better so you get the night off." You smiled over your shoulder as you filled the dishwasher. He smiled and took his phone out while you finished. You thought he might have taken a picture but didn't mind if he did. Once you were done, Jake had one last request. He pulled you over to the couch and grabbed the remote.

"Can I choose what we watch?" He smiled at you wrapped in his arm and tucked into his chest.

"Yes," you said into him as you relaxed. Maybe this wasn't the weekend to get caught up on work.
