ZOES POV
Me and Sam just finished our last class of the day, which means my doctors appointment is in under an hour. At the moment, sam and I are sitting in his car pulling out of the schools parking lot. I don't think I've ever been this nervous in my entire life. There are so many things that could go wrong today. Like, could there be more than one?! Is there anything wrong with it?! Is my baby even alive!? I'm 17 for crying out loud. Right now I should be stressing over outfits and makeup for graduation and prom, not baby grows and nursery colours. I don't understand how Sam is so calm, he's never actually conversed with me if he is scared or worried at all. To be honest, he seems more excited than anything, but I guess he's not the one carrying the thing then pushing it out nine months later.Suddenly, Sam's calming voice breaks me out of my reverie.
"Zoe? Baby? Are you okay?" He asks.
"Huh?" I turn my head towards him. "Yeah I'm fine." He slightly smirks at me.
"You sure? You looked like you spaced out there." he chuckles and I smile in return.
"I was just thinking." I stare out of the car window gazing, as the tall buildings pass by.
"About?" He presses.
"The appointment" Sam raises his eyebrows and looks at me as if to say 'elaborate'. "I guess I'm just nervous, really nervous."
"What are you nervous about?" He questions. I take a deep breath.
"I don't know" I mumble.
"Look" he starts, eyes still on the road in front. "I promise you, everything's going to be just fine. We are going to go to the appointment, meet our midwife and get to see how beautiful our baby is." I feel my heart glow at his words. "What's the worse than can happen?"
"We lost the baby" the words come out before I can even process them. Sam turns his head to me briefly, a shocked expression on his face.
"Hey, don't speak like that." He says sternly. "Nothing is going to happen, okay?" I nod my head slightly.
"Okay".
************************************************
A short 10 minute drive later me and Sam arrive at the woman's maternity hospital in our town. We walk hand in hand to the front desk in reception, passing by the elder women with my their round bellies and hands attached to their husbands, stealing glances at us as we walk past. As we approach the receptionist she smiles at us and Sam is the first one to speak up."Hi, we are here for an ultrasound scanning" the receptionist, who's named tagged read 'Sandy' looks at her computer for a quick second.
"Name?"
"Zoe Cooper" I reply. Once again she looks at her computer and types in a few words.
"Ah" Sandy says in realisation. "Your midwife is Dr Mandy Clevver, she'll be with you in just a few minutes if you just take a seat over there." She points to the other women in the waiting room. We both mumble a 'thank you' and to go that area. We sit and after a sort while of silence I notice Sam's leg start to shake and his hands fidget with one another.
