a/n: explicit toward the end
Christmas came around and the McClain and Boyce family decided to take a family trip to the movies to see Polar Express in 3D as they did every year.
Once all of them got their tickets and went inside, Sierra politely pulled Cameron aside. "Come on, Cam. Let's get popcorn for everybody."
"Uh, okay, alright," he followed Sierra to the concession stand without much of a choice. Once they got in line and were a reasonable distance from other people, Cameron shoved his hands in his pockets. "So I take it you know me and China are together."
"Yeah. Congratulations by the way. But I know far more than that."
"Oh, great" Cameron said sarcastically, managing to keep a nervous smile on his face.
"I'm not going to grill or lecture you, I know you'll treat her right. I just want to chat to make sure you guys are on the same page."
"Why? What'd she say?"
"She won't say it directly but she's terrified."
"Of what? Of me?"
"You know China, she likes to be realistic to her own detriment. She's already thinking past the relationship and what she'd do without you. She's already healing herself after a break up that hasn't even happened."
Cameron was quite.
"She's absolutely crazy about you Cameron and that scares her."
"I'm crazy about her too. I want us to be together for the rest of our lives if I can help it."
"Of course you do. You're 20 and in love. Just-" Sierra sighed a little, hoping she wouldn't regret her next statement. "Don't be surprised if China sabotages this for herself. Just work with her. You're really good at making her express herself. Keep that up especially when it gets really hard."
"I hear you," he nodded.
"Hey Cameron," she hugged him around his neck because she towered over him.
"Yeah?" He wrapped his arms around her back.
"I love you, little bro."
"Love you too."
By the time they returned with snacks, everyone was ready to head in. When they stepped into the theatre, they noticed it was surprisingly full for a holiday.
Cameron was just about to open his mouth to tell China to sit next to him when Libby grabbed China's hand and pulled her to the middle of the row. Cameron was a little annoyed because they'd never been on a proper date. He could count the endless amount of outings they had when they were little but chaperoned occasions don't count. Needless to say, he wanted this to sort of ease into something special.
But to be fair, every year for the past 10 years they had a specific seating chart. Maya, China, Libby, Lauryn, Shontelle, Sierra. Then in the following row, it went Michael, Gabe, Cameron, Victor, and because he was invited, Evan was next to Victor on the end. Because they had a guest, Cameron was sort of hoping that it'd be rearranged but such is life.
After the movie all the parents were talking amongst each other in the parking lot; Cameron and China branched off a little ways away from everyone.
"So, I got you something." Cameron reached into his pocket and smiled. "I saw you favoriting variations of this on Pinterest so I ordered it for you."
China furrowed her brows and shook her head "You are so hardheaded," she mumbled.
"I know but we always get each other something and I didn't want that to stop just because we're together ."
