Dreamland - Act I

Unexpected Allies

United States of America – November 24th 2023

I never believe in fairytales such as monsters hiding under your bed or existence of demons, ghosts, and angels. However times have changed and now global news have focused their attention towards a powerful religious cult that is plundering the world into chaos, the Black Order. They came out of nowhere after bombing Tokyo with some kind of new explosive device that completely reduced the city into ruins and killed about 50,000 people.

They announced to the world like some kind of supervillain, saying that Humanity is a disease and must be cleansed by the Azuna Legion... the deities they worship. They don't sound much, however these guys weren't kidding after blowing up nuclear plants based in China, Europe, and Japan. They also claimed the successful cyberattack on Wall Street, crippling the world's economy as well as successfully launching a global uprising in every major city.

At that point, say goodbye to the United Nations as every major nations were forced to revoke their membership and defend their homelands. The Black Order is by far worst than any other terrorist organizations the world ever faced, on top of that, there's rumors they even have their own standing army. If that's the case it's not a coincidence Los Angeles went dark.

Los Angeles is the only city in the West Coast that has no power and the strangest part is that drones just gets fried within the five mile radius of the blackout area. Also about 88% of the total population have disappeared from LA, leaving the entire city under heavy lockdown by the Army National Guard and evacuating any remaining civilians out of the city. We got the green-lid on the operation and being deployed to investigate and determine the outcome if possible.

I'm counting the Black Order being responsible for this, but the disappearing act of the entire city doesn't add up and HQ aren't too sure about either. We don't even know what we're exactly doing here, but we have our orders. I have a gut feeling that our enemies is one step ahead... but we'll be ready for them when the action kicks in. Anyways it is time, this is Captain Hernandez, signing out.

0100 Hours

Los Angeles, California, USA

A dark entity from the shadows observed an armed convoy entering Los Angeles. They stopped in the middle of the intersection deep in the city as they disembark from their vehicles. The entire platoon were composed of U.S. Marines from the 1st Reconnaissance Battalion, the best of the Marine Corps fighting force. Captain Hernandez was the first to step out of the LAV-25 along with his squad as he looks around his surroundings, it was a big mess in his eyes.

The entire city was empty like everyone just got up from what they're doing and disappeared. Cars are everywhere, new and used, abandoned in the streets. He was well-built, young, and had no beard, but his eyes are sharp and pays very close attention to little bits of details throughout his surroundings. He thought he saw something moving in the shadows as the dark entity slowly disappears from his visual sight.

"That was weird," he thought in his head. "I could've sworn I saw something moving in the shadows. I gotta keep my eyes open and look out for anything strange. This whole place already feels wrong especially the smell in the air and how quiet it is."

"All right marines, let's set up our command base," Major Mitchell ordered the platoon.

Major Mitchell is the commanding officer of the platoon, having been through 14 combat tours in Iraq, his excellent combat skills and leadership will prove valuable for the mission and ensuring his men are bought back alive. He's also a non-believer like Hernandez, which he finds the Black Order intentions in releasing "demons" upon the world rather ridiculous. He intends on leaving none of them alive as he strongly despises the Black Order and how they use civilians as human shield and killing them execution style.
