Carter Corporation. Welcome to one of New York's most influential firms! A dazzling high glass building marked with its founder's name in capital letters and its personnel all spruced up. Everything here reminds you that you're part of something big and of fresh young people who have decided to dedicate their lives to their work. I took a job as a communication's assistant several months ago. I work as a team with Matt. We quickly hit it off, he has become a friend thanks to our mutual taste in rotten jokes. Our manager is the serial lover, Gabriel Simons. I say, serial lover because there's not a single girl here that hasn't one day, or another succumbed to his charm. Except for Lisa and I of course.

Lisa. The secretary on whom I clumsily spilt my coffee on my first day here and who never held a grudge for she's now my very best confidant. Tonight, all these people are having a field day because the firm is celebrating its anniversary! I came cause I more or less had to. I'm not a great fan of dinner evenings at work. I'd rather be out with my friends. But at Carter Corp, you either play the game or you find yourself packing, because replacements are never very far off. The party took up two floors and we were served the best petit-fours in town. Delicious. The party is over now. It's 11:30pm, I'm downstairs with Lisa and Matt.

Lisa > Hey! How about pursuing the night at Starlite's?

Starlite is our meet up bar where we go to relax after a long day's work. It's also Lisa's favourite place because she loves dancing. Unfortunately, mother nature didn't provide me with grace neither did she give me a good sense of rhythm. And as for swinging my hips on the dance floor, It's a complete disaster.

> I don't kno.. I drank quite a bit of champagne and...

Lisa > So what? Me too! Taxis exist you know, Lily! Just watch!

Lisa shuffles her heels along the sidewalk to hail a cab. Matt sighs rolling his eyes. Don't be mistaken by her angelic look. Behind her little blond-haired face is a real devil. The cab pulls up level with her. Lisa turns and smiles at us devilishly.

Lisa > There you go! Come one, let's go!

Matt looks at me smirking with resignation. Suddenly I realise I'm missing something.

> Oh no, I've forgotten my bag!!

Lisa pouts. She motions to the taxi to go on. It looks at me as if he's cursing. But I'm not sure. New York style, no doubt.

Lisa > Go on! We'll wait!

I swear to myself! It's the kinda thing that never happens to me! I'm far too careful and meticulous with my things to forget my precious bag anywhere. Well, to let myself off the hook, the very good champagne chose by the firm doesn't really help. As I get to the foot of the building a security guard bars the way.

Security Guard > You can't get through, it's closed

> I've forgotten my bag inside, I'll only be a minute.

Security Guard > It's a good reason but... no. Nobody goes in. Nobody comes out.

I give my best puppy-dog eyes, with a hint of female distress but nothing. (I should have taken up acting class at school).

Mark Leviels > A problem, Miss Langood?

> Oh, Mr Leviels, just the man I needed! I'm a real scatterbrain! I've forgotten my bag inside!

Mr Leviels is a charming man. He's highly placed in the firm, but it doesn't stop him from being humane and understanding. He's my manager's boss which means he's my boss too. But I feel comfortable with him. Mark gives the security guard a sign and he steps to the side without arguing. Well yeah, some are more charismatic than others. Once inside, I make my way to the elevator. It feels really funny with no one else about. Everything's peaceful. It's as if something strange is about to happen, something unexpected. (Pfft Lily! You watch too many movies!)
