Mister Carter > I need to be able to trust you. I aim for excellence, I don't expect a job to be done correctly or acceptably. Mediocrity doesn't interest me. Your job will include organizing galas, choosing restaurants but also dealing with interviews for which I don't have the time. Reporting back to me on our activities abroad or advising me on my choice of suits.

> I will make myself available of course, but not at all hours.

Mister Carter > I'm not a slave driver, Miss Langood. But as soon as you step into your office up until you leave this building, you must be available.

Judging by the tone of his voice it's non-negotiable...

> Very well. Naturally, excellence and my devotion to the job have a price.

I raise an eyebrow looking at him. Playing with fire gets your burned but I can't help it.

Mister Carter > What is your price?

His question totally disarms me... Nobody's ever asked me that before! Generally, people warn you that the salary will be low, to begin with...

> Well...

A smirk comes to his lips. He's really charming when he smiles.

> 50 000 dollars a year.

Am I really asking for such a sum? His smile broadens.

Mister Carter > Ah very well. I'll have your contract modified then cause I'll be saving several thousand dollars per year. I had anticipated 60 000.

I'm dumbstruck. I think I must look like a cooked clam. I've really missed an opportunity to keep my mouth shut! I should have known that talking contracts now was a little risky!

Mister Carter > Miss Sparke, will bring your contract, modified, tomorrow morning.

Cassidy? Oh no... She's really the last person I want to see. He motions that I may leave.

Mister Carter > Have a good evening, Miss Langood.

> You too, sir.

As I leave his office, I realize that he's just won twice. He's good, too good! I can tell that working with him isn't gonna be easy but the idea excites me more than it frightens me.

As I get to my apartment, it's late. Bobby has both its paws on the bars of its cage and is staring at me.

> I'm sorry, boy! I've had a long day!

I open the little door and delicately catch it to kiss it on its nose. I sit down with him on the sofa. As I gently stroke the top of its head it curls up in a ball obviously enjoying it. I soon think back to the surreal day I have just had. It's strange but something intrigues me about Carter. There's something

about him that makes me want to know more. And I'm sure that I will learn a lot by working with him. I sigh watching Bobby groom itself.

> At least you don't ask yourself so many questions!

My phone rings, it's Lisa.

> Hi, Lisa!

Lisa > So! What did you decide?

My friend didn't miss a word of what I told her.

> I accepted the job.

Lisa > Fantastic!

> Yeah! I think it's gonna be interesting!

Lisa > You bet, lucky you! I hope that with your senior position now, you'll still come out for lunch with the little secretary from the ground floor.
