prompt: Could you do another little Luthor reader fic? Except this time reader has an anxiety attack, tries to hide it from Lena, but she finds out anyways and comforts reader?

warnings: anxiety and anxiety attack

You flopped down on your bed with your laptop to check the grade you'd gotten on your midterm review the second your driver had dropped you off at the penthouse you lived in with your big sister.

"C'mon, c'mon, c'monnn," You groaned, trying to pull up your grade quickly.

You would've screamed immediately if you hadn't any self control. You got a C-.

How on Earth am I going to pass the midterm if I got a C- on just the review? And it was for science, of all things! Your eyes started to well up with tears and you clenched your jaw tightly as you tried to focus on your laptop through your blurred vision.

You looked at the time, 4:37 PM. You shut off your phone to keep yourself from getting distracted. If you used all the time you had from then until Monday, you'd have a bit more than three days to reteach yourself everything using the notes Mr. James had posted online. Hopefully that was enough time to memorize everything.

When you found them, you printed out all 85 pages of notes from the entire beginning half of the year and lay them on the ground. Just looking at all of the paper on the floor started to aggravate you but regardless, you started to read from the first page and take notes on a notebook as you did so.

After two or so hours of highlighting, annotating, and taking notes, you'd managed to get to page 25 before you reached what you were the worst at.

"How the hell do I even do these calculations?" You muttered to yourself after getting eight of them wrong and none of them right, chewing on the cap of your pen, and feeling more frustrated than ever. Soon those tears from before started to well up in your eyes again.

You had been so confident you could do this before, but now you weren't even sure there was a way for you to remember all of what you had just read and you felt so stupid, and before you knew it you were finding it just a bit too hard to breathe and you couldn't see because of the tears streaming down your face.

What will Lena think of me? This thought sent you headfirst into an anxiety attack.

Lena is a genius and having a dumbass sister is probably the last thing she wants.

Before you knew it you had forgotten everything Lena had told you to do when you felt like you were having an anxiety attack and you were alone.

You were starting to feel like you couldn't breathe anymore, your throat was tightening and you could feel your heart racing as chills spread throughout your body.

You didn't hear the door open or Lena come inside, but she sure heard you, and dropped her belongings on the floor before running into your room and kneeling beside you, ignoring the papers scattered on the ground, "Honey, breathe. Try to breathe for me, okay?"

"I'm s-sorry," You managed to get out as your chest heaved before you started to sob.

"Don't apologize, everything's okay," Lena held your face with gentle hands and brushed your tears away before moving her hands to your arms. "Just breathe with me, please."

You could see how scared she was. The first thing she'd seen when she'd arrived home was you crying while having an anxiety attack and she didn't know why or how long you'd been like this.

You nodded and focused on Lena, and after a few minutes your breathing had slowed down enough for you to talk, but Lena had none of that, as she pulled you into a warm hug, running her fingers through your hair.

"Do you need some water?" Lena whispered, not wanting to startle you.

"Yeah," You replied hoarsely. "I'll go grab some."

"No," Lena pulled away and gave you a stern look and shook her head. "Stay here. I'll be right back with some water for you."

Lena was back in a few seconds and she sat back on the ground with you after taking off her heels.

You took the glass she offered you and thanked her before taking a few sips and setting it beside you.

Now that everything was calmer, Lena let herself look around and noticed the pages on the ground along with pens and highlighters and a notebook and it all just looked like a huge mess, "What happened?"

"You'll hate me," You shook her head.

"Never. There's absolutely nothing you can do to make me hate you," Lena squeezed your hand gently.

"Well then you'll think I'm stupid because I can't do this dumb science," You bit the inside of your lip. "I got a C- on my midterm review, Lee. I didn't wanna let you down and of course I had to screw it all up."

"Okay, first, science is not dumb, and second, did all of this happen because of your midterm review?" Lena's expression showed nothing but concern.

"And because I didn't want to disappoint you," You looked at the pen on the ground beside you before looking at Lena again when you started talking again. "I just - you're literally a genius and I can't even do math."

"I don't care if you're good at math or not, (y/n), you will never disappoint me. I'm so proud of everything you do and just because you can't understand something doesn't mean anything," Lena gave you a reassuring smile. "I'm sorry if I've ever made you feel afraid of letting me down though. You shouldn't have to feel like that."

"No, it's not you, Lee. Lillian was just really strict on me with grades and she always compared me to you and Lex. I'm just used to that," You shrugged.

"Well, there will be no more of that, not while you're with me," Lena pulled you into a gentle hug and you let yourself enjoy the embrace, feeling your big sister's comforting arms around you, "On Saturday and Sunday I'll cancel all my plans and I'll help you study, okay?"

You smiled and nodded, "Thank you, Lena."

"Of course, honey. I'm here to help."
