"something different"

***

The morning after the game, I sat outside on the bank of the Black Lake with my head against a tree. Having a free couple of periods was so important to me. Having time to rest and sleep was extremely important to me.

"Rose," A mop of bright hair sat beside me.

"Hey Mace," I answered without opening my eyes. I hadn't seen much of him since we arrived at Hogwarts, what with being in different Houses and on completely different schedules. We apparently had this 'free' the same.

"Sleepy Rosie?"

"We had a game last night," I opened my eyes and stared at the sky between the leaves and branches above me. "I'm sorry I didn't invite you."

"All good," Mason replied. "Well, I can't say I'm completely un-offended. I need something like a party right about now."

"Not like it was much of a party," I looked at him. "Butterbeer doesn't get you all that shit-faced."

He laughed. "We need some Vodka or something."

"Sirius had something strong. Fire, Fiery-something," I frowned. "Dimitri refused though."

"Shame," He smirked. I pouted.

Mason leant closer with a grin, making our shoulders touch slightly. "What's up with him, anyway?"
"Who?" I put my head to the side. "Dimitri?"

"No," He whispered, mockingly. "Sirius."

"What?"

He shrugged.

I gaped at him. "Okay."

"What?" He rose his hands in suggestion. "Doesn't he seem exactly your type?"

"Yeah?" I deadpanned. "And what's that then?"

"Tall, dark, long-haired."

I narrowed my eye's at him, knowing full well he was hinting at my possible attraction to my instructor. Although I had never directly told Mason of this with only Lissa (and possibly a certain Marauder) actually knowing, he clearly had suspicions.

"Have you met him?" I asked

"Sort of, at the Feast first night."

"And from that small interaction, you think he's my type?"

"Is he not?" Mason said innocently.

I glowered at him. Thinking about it, Sirius was exactly my type. As Mason said - tall, dark, long-haired. Handsome. Not someone I saw myself with, however. Perhaps a fling? Not that I had much experience in the sex department. I'd done other stuff, quite a lot of other stuff. But from last nights game, I knew he was ahead.

A bell chimed from the castle.

"Come on," I began to stand.

"I have another free," Mason said.

"Damn," I stopped and looked down at him. "Lucky Duckie."

He laughed. "I'll walk you back up though."

"Thanks, Sweets," I grinned.

We made our way up to the Entrance Hall with other students who were spending an empty period down by the lake. Being the sunniest spot on the grounds definitely gave it its perks despite the monstrous water. I parted ways with Mason, him heading to his common room and me to a Charms class.

I met Dimitri a few metres away from the door, he was standing alone against the wall.

"Hey," I said as I leaned against the wall next to him.

"Hi," He smiled slightly. Something stirred inside me as I thought of last night. His eyes. Those dark eyes. "I didn't see you at lunch."
Because lunch backed onto my free period, I decided to skip it to sit by the lake. Shockingly, I hadn't been overly bothered by it. Probably because I knew that the so-called-Marauders definitely knew where the school kitchen was.

"No, I skipped it."

Dimitri stared at me. "Excuse me? You skipped it?"

I shrugged. "I had a free before. I sat with Mase by the lake."

"Right," He nodded slowly. I tried to ignore the slightly niggling feeling that he may be jealous. Dimitri doesn't get jealous.

After a few weeks at Hogwarts, it was starting to get easy pretending that my interest was completely focused on the classes and protection. In actual fact, tedium was beginning to settle in and life around the castle was quickly becoming monotonous. It basically involved the classes, the common room, the training and trying to avoid the tingling I got in my lower stomach whenever my instructor was in the room. The best part of my day would've been seeing Lissa, but her pale shadow seriously dampened that. I was in a magical castle and all I could think about was that I needed something more exciting, more fun. Something different.

"Everything alright?" Sirius plonked himself down in one of the cushy armchairs near my place near the fire. I glanced up at him.

Something different indeed.

So... a fairly short and uneventful chapter. I'll try and get a longer one up quickly.

q: what do you think will happen with Sirius and Rose?
