| • You • |After two days of traveling on foot we had arrived at our destination, and what a sight the place was. The city was grander than any other town we had seen and despite it being night, the streets were busy and the air was still lit by countless lights. The people dressed differently too, some even looked like foreigners with their strange hats.
"Whooooa."
And I was marveling at it like an idiot.
"Muichiro!" I grabbed at his sleeve seeing the boy trying to disappear from my line of sight. "We have a full day before the demon attacks, let's go explore the city!"
He gave me another of his blank stares I had gotten use to by now and ripped his sleeve from my hand, "No thanks, let's just go find a place to stay for the night."
The boy turned his back on me and shoved his way through the streets as I followed suit behind him, because what else could I do? I can't leave him alone, he'll walk into ten poles before I'm done buying a bowl of ramen.
"Oh come on, you're just going to waste a full day in the city?!"
"Yes."
"What about food?!"
"I'll buy some later."
"Really?"
"No."
Despite my complaints, he somehow led me to an inn where he then paid for both our rooms, much to my disappointment. But I felt the urge to be annoying so after I had set down what little luggage I had in my room, I immediately left it.

"Oh come on that was dumb of you, we could have saved money if we just got one room with two beds," I complained to the Pillar by his futon.
"They don't offer extendable iron fences to separate us," I heard his muffled grumble escape through the blanket cocoon.
"That's mean, you didn't even ask!" I threw my body on his, sideways of course.
"And plus you never cared about people seeing you sleep. I've seen you sleep on the grass out in the open at least twelve times in the last seventy eight days!"
"I'm filing a complaint on you as soon as we get back."
"Aww."
"You're getting too comfortable with me and I don't like it."
And we chatted like that for hours, me annoying Muichiro and him being grumpy. But at least he was responding and not pushing me out, and for that I was happy. I was the closest thing he had to a friend (I would like to think) and, whether he knew it or not, the same he was to me.
I appreciate that, it was sad perhaps, but just being close to him in any way was enough for me. I thanked Master for pairing me up with him, even if we go back and we never speak a word to each other again, I'll at least look back on these few days with a smile. For it may be the closest I had ever gotten to having someone I call-
