A Change of Heart

Ring….ring…

Her deep slumber was interrupted by the loud ring of her phone. It is a Saturday night and she needs to sleep well for an early photo shoot tomorrow. She looked at her wall clock and see that it is past 4AM. Who will call her at this hour?

She struggled to open her heavy eyelids. She looked at her phone, it is just Alvin.

“Istorbo!” sabi niya. She couldn’t help but be annoyed. Anong oras na kasi at naputol ang pagtulog niya. She decided to cancel the call. Anyways, for sure hindi naman importante, mangungulit lang yon.

She is about to go back to sleep when…

Ring…ring…

It’s Alvin calling her again. Annoyed, she covered her phone with a pillow, but she could still hear the vibrations of her phone.

“Al wala kang patawad!” inis na sagot niya sa tawag ni Alvin.

“This better be good. Anong kailangan mo?” she told him with her voice laced with sleepiness.

“Hi Janey…” he sweetly answered from the other line.

“What. Do. You. Want?” pagsusungit niya. She doesn’t have the patience to go kind on him right now. Antok na antok pa rin siya. Kung sasabihin lang agad ni Alvin ang kailangan niya, he can get over it and she can go back to sleep soon.

“Ang sungit mo naman!” She can hear him chuckle from the other line which annoyed her more.

“Alvin kahit sino tawagan mo ng ganitong oras maiinis sayo. Ano na? Is it emergency ba?”

“Nope.. I’m outside your house right now,” kahit hindi niya nakikita si Alvin ngayon. She knows he is smiling right now. How can someone be so cheerful at this time she thought.

“And so?”

“Haha! Sunget mo talaga. Come down here please.”

“Why would I do that?”

“Please. I’ll tell you something really important.”

“Edi tell me now. I don’t want to get out of bed. Naka-pajama ako.”

“Janey… please..labas ka na diyan. Please…please…”

As much as she wants to, because she cannot really refuse him if he is begging like that, but her bed is too comfortable right now.

“Go away Teng,” she said coolly  and hung up.

Ring… ring..

She knows her friend can be very persistent, but she doesn’t want to deal with him right now. So she turned her phone off and closed her eyes and drifts off to dreamland.

Few minutes after, she was awakened by a soft knock on her terrace door.

“Oh my God!” she was surprised and felt disoriented. Ano bang nangyayari? Could it be a robber? Wala naman kumakatok na magnanakaw diba? She thought. She quickly gets out of her bed and turned on the lights outside her room to see who it is.

The curtains on the glass door only show the silhouette of the person, but she totally knows that certain silhouette so well. So she went to grab a sweater from her closet then she opened the terrace door.

“Are you out of your mind?” she whispered but loud enough for him to hear. She snapped at him, and there he is standing outside her porch, shining his bright smile to her.
