“Come on! Hurry, Z.”
“Maize … Honestly, I’m not running up this damn hill just to sit in the middle of nowhere with complete strangers.”
“If there’s anyone even there,” my friend pointed out.
“Yeah, because that’s so much better.” I glared.
“It is, because it gives us the chance to meet them first if they’re there,” she shrieked in excitement.
“They’re not there, Maize,” I said, getting annoyed with her.
Her face dropped, and she pouted.
“Mood killer.”
“Smartass.” I smirked slightly, knowing I probably just ticked her off.
“ZOE ELIZABETH; LANGUAGE!” She half-yelled.
I laughed. “Okay, okay. I’m sorry”
She sighed. “Please … just hurry up.”
I laughed again, knowing that I had won this little argument, before I gave in and began walking up the hill at my friends pace. After several minutes of silence, we finally made it to the top.
“Finally. We … we are never walking again” Maize said tiredly.
I laughed. “Look who’s talking”
Maize glared at me and walked over near the entrance gate of the arena and sat down.
“Well we’re here, and I don’t see any fluffy haired Australian boys walking around.” I cracked a smile, feeling accomplished.
“Shut up, Z.” Maize pouted and paused to catch her breath, before she looked up at me. “Have some hope.”
“I lost hope when we were halfway up the hill. Now shut up; I want food”
Maize opened her mouth to speak but closed it again, knowing that I was right. It was hopeless to believe in such a silly fantasy. A worldwide famous band wouldn’t be walking around outside a concert venue in the middle of nowhere for the hell of it. Well, maybe the band we wanted to see would. You never know with guys as crazy as them, but still I’m not letting my hopes get too high. Even if we got that smallest of a chance to meet them, all we would get would be a ‘hello,’ and a picture.
Typical.
“Can I ask you ladies why you’re out here so early?” A man’s voice appeared out of nowhere, scaring me out of my dreams.
We had somehow managed to fall asleep. I checked my phone 5:36AM. Great; we still have a whole day ahead of us before the actual concert starts.
I looked up at the man while shaking Maize’s arm. His uniform told me he was a security guard for the venue—and we were probably about to get in trouble. Wonderful.
“I—um … we’re waiting to see 5 Seconds Of Summer.” I mumbled under my breath, still attempting to wake up fully.
“That concerts not for hours!”
I just shrugged helplessly, while Maize cursed under her breath and attempted to wipe the sleep from her eyes. The security guard looked at us both with an unimpressed, but contemplative, look.
“Well it’s still dark everything’s closed and there’s nowhere to go and stay around here, Is it only you two?” The man asked.
“Yes” Maize answered.
“Are you sure?” He asked again. We both just nodded.
“Okay I’ll make an exception come on in “
Maize and I look at each other and blinked not sure if this was happening or not. I could tell she was probably close to either screaming or dying due to the lack of breathing.
“Dude chill” I giggled.
“Sorry” She said.
“Z?” She said calling me by my nickname.
“Hm?” I answered.
“I told you there’s hope”
