before you read, know that I was young in my writing age and I have grown much more as a writer and realize the majority of things in this story are things that I would truthfully redo. when I started this I think I clung to much to the mainstream style and didn't really do my own thing but -- regardless of that, I hope that you enjoy it and fall in love with the characters as much as I have. xo

noelle } oct. 24th { 730 days before

i woke up to pounding rain on the roof, progressively seeming to get louder and harder. an occasional burst of thunder fell in, making my old spaniel tiffany wimper by my bedside.

i rubbed tiffany's soft ears as i glanced out the rain dropped covered window out onto the busy streets of london. people busily shuffled on and off the large buses, some heading to the subways, all heading to work.

work. i groaned as i realized that that's where i had to be in less than a half an hour. the rain seemed to be pounding harder and harder than before; and my car was in the shop. i've been walking to work every morning, usually not minding it. but today, the weather seemed to want me to stay in bed.

i managed to flop out of my warm comforter and make my way to the shower.

i blow dried my wavy auburn locks after, then pulled into a high pony tail. i drudged out of the steamy bathroom and back into my messy room to find out what to wear. half of my closet was on the floor, the other was the odd misfit clothes my mom gets me for christmas every year.

an old gray sweater that was likely my older brothers hung limply in the corner of my closet, practically calling my name on this chilly day. i pulled on my wool leggings and socks and wa-la-- a completed my 'brothers-sweater-lazy-i-don't-want-to-work-today' look with brown boots tied loosely on my feet.

i grabbed my green raincoat and my leather messenger bag and headed out the door of my flat to the rainy weather.

the walk to my internship was usually quite nice. it went through a small, quiet park that was scattered with elderly couples feeding birds or women jogging at a pace slow enough to compete with tortoises.

but today, the heavy rain made the walk nearly miserable. my rain coat wasn't even functional anymore; i could feel the wetness seep through my sleeves. my hair felt like a wet dog as it hung limply off my head.

i quickly walked through the rain, wanted it to stop and for my hair to dry.

"exuse me?" a voice called to my left.

i quickly glanced over to the source of the voice. a boy with nicely wispy hair with lovely, thick eyebrows was huddled under a black umbrella, untouched by the rain.
"do you want to stay dry?" he laughed as he shuffled the umbrella in his hands.

"oh, please, that'd be fantastic." i replied, thanking him in my head a billion times.
he lifted the umbrella slightly as i ducked under, smiling slightly at his warm face. we huddled together as the rain pounded against the umbrella.

"i'm jack, by the way. jack harries." he said, glancing his eyes toward me. oh man, his eyes. deep, enchanting, angel boy eyes that made me want to stare right back into them for days.

"i'm noelle paterson, it's a pleasure to meet you jack." i replied, feeling my cheeks burn.

"where are you headed?" he asked.

"oh, i'm doing an internship at the publishing company in the office building on 5th avenue, Franklin Publishing?"

"oh, yeah! hey, i'm actually going to the same place, how funny." he laughed. "i have an office there."

"what do you do?"

"my brother and i run a website and youtube channel there. on floor ...3 i think?"

"oh! is it jacksgap?" i asked excitedly. i walked past the door every day -- i've always been curious to what it was.

"yeah, how'd you know?" he chuckled while letting the curves of his mouth curl out, making a gorgeous smile. i mean, truly seriously gorgeous; my heart nearly melted.

"franklin is 3 offices down, i walk past it every day. " i replied as we came to the office building.

the walk seemed to go by in a breeze with the companionship of jack. my hair still looked horrendous and my sleeves stuck against my arms due to the rain, but conversation seemed to flow naturally.

jack removed the umbrella from over our heads as we entered the warm, cozy building and preceded to fold it up.

we walked up 2 flights of stairs and got to the familiar hall way.

"well, it was a pleasure meeting you noelle, i'll definitly see you around." jack told me as we walked side by side.

"oh yeah, definitly. thanks for sharing your umbrella. i really mean it." i winked as he got to his room.

a wink? what was this, some sort of 50 year old guy hour?

"no problem noelle." he laughed as he winked smugly back.

yep, it was 50 year old guy hour.
jack opened his door and went into his office, leaving me alone.

i squeaked down the long hallway with my wet boots, observing the downstairs cafeteria. people busily got their coffees and donuts, shuffling along like ants. shit, had i even had breakfast yet? how could i forget about food? did a mental face palm as i got to frankin publishing.

i greeted tammy, who was in her usual desk at the front of the room.

"wet out there, huh?" she said to me without looking up from her desktop computer.

"oh yeah, geez." i replied as i removed my jacket.

i plopped down at my desk next to the other intern, sam, who usually didn't say much to me and typically had headphones in.

i started on my work, but my mind was in other places. i kept thinking about getting coffee and a donut, and my stomach agreed 15 minutes into my work. apart from breakfast, my mind kept drifting of to jack. his eyebrows, his smile, his stupid green angel eyes-- everything about him was just absolutely ..... amazing.

oh noelle, there's no going back now.
