noelle }
i started walking backward, bumping into the door. my heart rate was skyrocketing and i could feel tears starting to well up in my eyes. i needed to get out of here-- leave this house, leave jack and run home. i was only a distraction to him anyway, right?
when jack heard my bump on the door his lips snatched away from the redheads, exposing his frantic look.
"noelle, i promise you that-" he breathed, his eyes wide and almost terrified.
i fumbled for the doorknob behind me as jack came near me.
i felt tears stream down my face as i finally opened the door.
"noelle, just let me explain," jack told me, the words only going in one ear and coming out the other.
i shook my head and turned around into the hallway as quick as i could, only to be stopped by jacks arm on my wrist.
"don't... touch... me." i breathed, trying to be forceful but failing as tears were streaming down my face.
i looked into his big, frantic eyes before snatching my arm up from his grasp.
i walked quickly out of the hallway and into the crowded livingroom, weeding through party guests as fast as i could, trying to ignore the shouts of jack.
once i left the livingroom i went into the more crowded entrance room, luckily losing jack. i 'pardon me' and 'sorry'ed my way through and finally reached the door. i swung it open and starting running across stevens perfect lawn.
i started to hear jacks shouts when i got to the curb. i spotted a bus stop further up the street, so i forced myself to keep running.
"noelle, come back, please just let me- " his voice got closer as i ran down the street. "it wasn't my fault, ok she -"
i kept running and running-- purely out of the fact that i never wanted to talk to or see jack again. felt myself slow down just before i made it to the bus stop.
i brought myself to a full stop when i got to the bus stop, breathing heavily and tears staining my face. i plopped down next to a large elderly latina women holding a brown paper grocery bag. she smiled warmly at me, and i attempted to smile back.
i saw jack coming closer to the bus stop, only making my tears fall more quickly. i let out a big sob just as jack came up to me.
"it's gonna be ok honey, don't worry." the women said quietly, looking at me reassuringly.
"noelle, just let me explain," jack said in between breaths of exhaustion. "she kissed-"
i shook my head back and fourth. "just go away jack, it doesn't matter anymore." i sobbed.
"i promise it's not what it seems, just let me -"
"stop jack, just go away already." i nearly screamed at jack.
the women patted my shoulder gently and glanced up at jack.
"i'd give her some space, honey." she told jack.
jacks eyes were now filled with a mix of anger and sadness as the bus pulled up to the stop. i followed the women onto the bus, but stopped as i felt jack following me onto the steps.
i rapidly turned around to his face. "don't... you... fucking... dare.." i breathed, making him back up back into the bus stop.
the old shaggy bus driver looked at me concerned. "gotta card to swipe?" he asked.
i shook my head. he noticed my tears and motioned to the back of the bus. "i'll let you go." i smiled weakly in thanks and plopped myself down in an empty seat. i looked out the window to jack staring at me through the window of the bus, eyes brimming with tears. i quickly looked away so we wouldn't make eyecontact.
