Smile Another Day

She was beautiful,

Red hair,

fair skin,

freckles.

She was always happy,

Always smiling....

I never noticed that her smile was too tight,

That she wasn't alright.

It wasn't until I saw the cuts on her wrists

that i even knew her sadness exists,

But she never admitted to me just how sad she had been

didn't she know lying was a sin.

I tried to get her to stop

cleaning up the red with a mop

telling an adult to get her some help

to hear her cries or her distant yelp.

But there was nothing I could do

as she was suffering, I was too

My friend had never been so blue

But there was nothing I could do.

So one night, she took her life,

ending the line with a knife

she had surrendered the fight

and decided, herself, to smite.

How could she leave me alone like that?!

In a place so cold and hollow

Everyday I wonder around,

my tears I'm trying to swallow.

But this empty feeling inside my heart

Will never go away

Because never again will I see my best friend,

smile through another day.
