" so thrilled you agreed to this date with me." I snikered. " Did I have a choice? U did spill the rest of my drink on me." He smiled at me with those amazing teeth.
" I know and I truly apologize for that. I must have been distracted by stuff on my mind. " He said biting his lip. I slowly grabbed his hand gently. " Honestly same here." I said shyly. Man he was so cute. Slowly looking up at him. My eyes never leaving his face.
" I never did catch your name." I said happily to him. His eyes sparked up with mischief. I loved it. " That is because I never said it. Jess, if you must know it my name is Simon. " A cute boy with a wonderfully cute name, perfect I'm sold. His face grew still for a few minutes. Then he spoke. " Something seemed to bother you earlier. May I ask why?" I know I just met him earlier that day but I feel that maybe I can trust him. I feel safe with him. But that is crazy right? I hardly know him I would tell him but not now.
" I am sorry but to be honest with you it is personal. I will tell you just not now." Trying to smile, I tried not to let that topic bother me so much. " I completely understand and when your ready to talk I am here. Your face gives away why you cant."
Decided to play it cool.
" Yes I knew that." Truly I did not know that. " How is the food? Is It not the best? I made it myself." The food was indeed heavenly. " I love it Simon just the right amount of spices. " He smiled his eyes flashing once again. I could tell we were having a wonderful time. " Beats eating at a bad restaurant am I right?" Rollin my eyes I replied.
" Oh yes, well now I'm not sure anymore. It's a bit flat on the sauce. And don't get me started on the noodles. " Simon was speechless for a few minutes. Until he picked up on the humor.
" Finally a girl with a sense of humor. " I laughed right back. The clouds over head grew darker and it was only moments away til the rain on us.
We spent the car ride in silence. When I came to my front porch. I could see my mom and sister backing away from the window.
" This was a wonderful and interesting date thanks for agreeing to this love." My cheeks went red again. Did he mean what he said just barley? Wait! Was he going to kiss me? Our lips inches apart. Both of us breathing in and out and then.....we kissed. It felt like a thousand fireworks. It felt like it was only the two of us against the world. Our lips in perfect sync togather.
That is when the porch light brought me back to reality. As they blinked letting me know time was up. I truly hated saying goodbye. Once he took off I came in the door. My smile as big as a star. " So how did it go? Your gkowing sweetheart!" Staring at my mom I grabbed her hands.
" Mom it was amazing. He is such a gentlemen much better then what happened earlier today." Mom looked at me confusion in her face settled in.
" What happens earlier today?" Slapping my forehead fast I thought crap guess it is time. Tears flooded my eyes softly. Never leaving my mom's face. This right now was the moment of truth.
" Mom....I have stage three lung cancer."
