“Are you awake?” I asked Jake, who right then was lying on his back with his eyes closed. “Hello?” I asked again. “Processing” he said with his eyes still closed. “You said that ten minutes back” “you see Ms. Goldsin you had quite an unusual day. So this is going to take a while” “What’s so unusual?” I asked throwing my hands over my head. “Seriously? You don’t find anything unusual?” he asked. “No” “are you for real?” “spit it out already!” “let me lay it down gently. You kissed my brother!” he yelled sitting up straight. “That’s how you ‘lay it gently?’” I asked. “Sorry but there is no other way” he said lying back down. “What’s the big deal if I kissed him?” “one: he is my brother, two: you are at a funeral, three: he is high almost half the time, four: you cannot be serious about this, so stop playing with my brother” “you did not just say that!” I said and fake gasped. “For your kind information dead dude, number one does not count, I agree with number two, three is half correct since I don’t know him well and four, maybe I am serious about it” “Stop killing me! Dying once was hard enough” he said and realized how silent the library felt all of a sudden. “Don’t get all serious and stuff Cher, I'm kidding” I let out a sigh of relief and got up. “Where are you going?” he asked tilting his head. “I would love to gossip with you darling, but I have a murder to solve” “hold on! Didn’t Paul already do that for you?” he asked straightening his coat. “He didn’t do anything except accuse an innocent man of murder. He has no proof” “how do you know?” “because he didn’t say so” “you didn’t ask him” “so now I'll go ask him” “what if he doesn’t want to talk?” “then I'll make him talk” “and what if he has proof?” “Jesus Jake! Cut it out” “and that’s how you escape from a question you don’t wanna answer” he said standing up. “Are you coming?” I asked as I reached for the door. “Jake?” I said turning around but as usual, he was gone. “I’m sorry for going poof! Blah blah blah” I said to myself. “You coming?” I whirled around and looked at Jake. “What?” he asked. “I thought you went poof again” “I was waiting outside dumbass. Now let’s get movin’ baby, I wanna know who killed this handsome heart-breaker” he said patting himself on the shoulder. “handsome heart-breaker? Where’d you read that? Cosmo?” I chuckled and walked out of the library and into the hallway. “So where-” “ssh!” I said cutting Jake off. “Just so you know, nobody else can hear me!” he said raising his voice from a whisper to a loud scream. Without saying a word I walked towards the nearest room and gently placed my ear on the closed door. “She is not gonna back down” I could hear a female voice say. Did I sense fear in her voice? “Look, do something. Call Charlie. But get that thing fixed” now a male voice spoke. I heard these voices before but I didn’t want to jump to any conclusions. “If we can’t throw her out, we make Grace do it” the female said. Suddenly it felt as if silence took over the place. Footsteps. I could hear footsteps. They were getting louder. They were coming outside. What am I supposed to do? I can’t say “Hey! Don’t mind me. I was just eavesdropping”. Quick Cheryl, Think! I ran back inside the library and left the door open. Not completely open, at the least two fingers would definitely fit through the opening. A pair of perfectly tanned legs came into view. She wore Jimmy choo. Right behind her was the one person I had been defending all this time. Once they were out of sight I stepped out and closed the door behind me. “Cheryl” Jake said coming out of the same room. “It was Brittany and William wasn’t it?” I asked half expecting a no. “It was”.
