After 5 hours I checked on my phone to see what time it was. Me and silver were now riding along a highway.
"Okay silver, let's take a rest now."
We stopped and relaxed. I sat down on the grass while pulling out my phone.
I had 2 missed calls from Blaire.
I expected to have missed calls from momma because she didn't even know about but surprisingly I didn't.
I called Blaire back.
(My goodness dena! I was getting so dang worried about you cause you didn't pick up!)
(It's alright Blaire. I'm just fine)
(Where are ya at?)
(Me and silver are along side a highway)
(Where exactly are you headin' to?)
(I decided to head down to Kansas)
(Oh my gosh) she mumbled.
(Well be careful!!!)
(I will Blaire!)
(Bye!)
(Bye)
I hung up then sighed. This was gonna be a long night. It was too long a ways from a hotel so we just had to sleep right here.
I petted silver and kissed his nose.
"Goodnight boy." I whispered.
Then I fell asleep with my arm around his neck.---
My eyes slowly opened and heard the sweet sound of cars zooming by.
I sat up and saw silver a little ways ahead eating some grass.
"Mornin' boy!" I said joyfully patting his back.
He ate the grass like he hadn't ate in years.
I laughed at it.
"Let's get to going."
I climbed up on the saddle and motioned him to go.
We rode with the wind.
The sky was clear blue and sunny as heck.
We rode for about a hour and a half and we found the nearest restaurant to get something to eat.
It was Denny's diner.
My only problem was...where am I going to keep silver at while I eat.
I stopped and thought about for a minute or two.
Then it got to me.
There was a pole at the back of the restaurant where I could tie his bridle to it.
I tied him up and patted him.
"It's okay. I'll be back soon and I'll get you something to munch on too."
I patted him one last time then walked in.
The place was busy like a bee.
I sat down in a booth.
I grabbed a menu from the holder and started scanning it when I felt a tap on my shoulder.
"Excuse me." A quiet voice said.
I looked up.
There was a boy with short blonde hair and blue eyes; wearing a brown cowboy hat, blue jeans, and a pair of cowboy boots.
"I'm sorry. I need a place to sit.
Do you mind is a sit with you?"
"Oh sure, you can sit with me."
He sat down on the other side and looked at me. I looked back.
He is handsome.
"So what's your name?" He asked.
"My name is dena."
"Nice name.
My name is Luke."
I nodded and started scanning through the menu again.
"So what brings you to Denny's?" Luke asked.
"Well, it's kind of a long story."
"That's alright, i love hearing long stories."
"But I don't wanna waste your time."
"Oh don't you worry....
I have all the time in the world."
"Ok" I sighed.
"So I just ran away from home to get away from my father that's abusing me.
And I toke my favorite horse named silver which is tied to the pole in the back of this restaurant."
"Wow!" He said with a shocked face.
"Where are you headed to if your running away?"
"I'm deciding to go to Kansas."
"Kansas. Hm. That's interesting."
"Yeah. But I need a place to stay for about 2 or 3 weeks. Do you know any place where I could stay and keep my horse at?"
"Actually yes!"
"Really?!?!" I said feeling excited.
"Yeah. I stay at a motel that has horse stalls to keep people horses."
"That's fantastic! Could you take me there Luke?"
"Sure thing."
We got up and I let him have a ride with me on silver.
This journey was starting out
Pretty darn good.
