Jaeden

I won. That's not 100% surprising, but I'm still a little shaken after my attack. I'm walking Lilia home now. Her dad was supposed to pick her up but she said she'd rather walk and there's no way in hell that after everything I've seen growing up around gangs was I gonna walk my beautiful and perfect shaped girlfriend walk home alone 10:30 at night. Nope. Not happening.

It was pretty chilly and the stars were hidden behind misty clouds that spread out like blankets over the sky. I love stars. I've always adored astronomy. It started with my mom, she'd call me out late at night to sit on the roof that was the top of our porch and connected the bathroom to her and my dad's bedroom windows.

We'd sit there for God knows how long just watching the stars. But my mom wasn't completely stable. She had her own issues she didn't share with me but I always knew they must be at least a little serious because she took so many pills for them.

There was this one morning, it was like 4 AM. She came running into my room with her raincoat on, her hair and body soaked. She had this glow in her gorgeous blue eyes that I luckily inherited. She always seemed to lack that glow ever since she was on medication but it was different. Her smile was as wide as ever, revealing her straight white teeth. "Jaeden! Come on!" She said and ran to my bed. She wasn't even trying to be quiet, my dad was.....out. Doing whatever gang business he was doing. I had slowly sat up and looked her straight in her eyes. I was amazed at this side of her. She grabbed my hand. "Come on Jaeden! Hurry!" She rushed. "I'll be waiting on the porch." She had told me before running back out my room, leaving me there in awe. I had quickly gotten up, slipped my sneakers on and threw a hoodie over my Beatles t-shirt and followed after her. She was, as she said, on the porch waiting patiently. When she saw me all her patience left. She grabbed my hand and started running off the porch. "It's so cool! If we don't hurry, we'll miss it." She said as we ran faster, not even bothering to maneuver around puddles. Dad would've freaked if he found out about me splashing in those puddles and running through the mud with my new sneakers he just bought me. I didn't care, don't even know where all that money even came from. We were halfway through our neighborhood when she stopped. We were in front of a ice cream shop. Across the street was a park. "Look." She said and pointed across the street. I looked but didn't see anything that wasn't worth missing. "Look closer." She had told me. So I did. And what I saw was that the rain stopped in the middle of the street. The other side was completely dry.

"You alright?" Lilia asked, pulling me out of my thoughts. I turned my face to her and smiled. "Always am." I said .She just smiled and shook her head. She connected her lips and we kissed for awhile. That's when i realized we were standing in front of her house. And at the same time I noticed her dad watching us sternly from the window giving me a warning glare. I pulled away. "We seem to have a fan." I whispered sarcastically. She turned her neck to meet eyes with her dad. She rolled them sassily. "Whatever."

I gave her one more peck before she started for her door. Her dad's eyes never leaving my face. I shifted my weight from leg to leg until I saw Lilia disappear into her house. I turned around and started walking home. I pulled out my phone and began  contemplating if I should call my dad and ask for a ride. He'll come.....but I don't wanna bother.

If he wanted to do anything, he would've came. You see, Lilia's dad didn't come because he works in the government my dad didn't come because he doesn't give a fuck. Sorry dad, that's not what I meant. What I mean to say is that he would rather be doing whatever he's doing now. Probably selling drugs or blasting a bullet through someone's scull. I stuffed my hands in my pockets and decided to just walk.

As I was walking, I couldn't help but feel as if I was being followed. I turned to look over my shoulder and farther down the street was the man from the competition. The one with the tattoo on his face. I started walking faster and so did he. I spotted a store down the street. I could sneak in there. I broke into a run. The streets were quiet except for the sound of the both of our feet hitting against the pavement. I saw another man come from behind a building. He had the same tattoo and black hoodie. Another one stepped out of a doorway and one stepped out a car.

My breath got caught in my throat as I looked at all them. They all had the same tattoo. Fuck. It was a gang. I stayed heading to the store. Brody owns it. A guy from my dad's gang. I was running as fast as my anxiety was allowing me too. They were closing in on me. All directions. I don't know if I'll make it. I looked over my shoulder as I ran into the store. Out of breath I bumped into someone. I looked up and met eyes with my dad's deep brown ones. "Dad!" I said and threw my arms around him. I was so scared but now, in his arms I felt safe.

"Jaeden, what's this about? I'm in the middle of business." He told me. I looked into his eyes. "I was being followed. They were chasing me." I gasped. His expression changed. He pushed by me and walked out the store. I followed him as he looked up and down the street. "What'd they look like?" He asked me. I saw his cold expression and I knew that whoever it was is in some deep trouble. I don't want any blood on my hands. "I didn't get a good look." I lied. He walked closer to me. "Look Jaeden, for your own safety you need to tell me, did those guys have a tattoo on their faces? Right cheek, maybe left but that's not accurate. Wyatt loves everything to be right." He said, the last part to himself. The name Wyatt send a shiver down my spine. Maybe it was the cold. Or maybe not.

"I don't know." I lied again. "Were they wearing black hoodies?" He asked. Yes. "No."

"How about this, did you see them at all today?" He asked. Yes. "No." I said shaking my head. He sighed. He put both hands on my shoulders and looked me sternly in the eyes. "If anything else like this happens, come straight to me. Call me. Something. And do not lie to me. You can be in danger. If Wyatt figures you out...." He stopped himself and hugged me. "Get in my car. Let's go home. What would you like for dinner? Pizza?" He asked. I shrugged. "Pizza's okay." I told him. He nodded and smiled. "Okay get going. I'm gonna finish up here really quickly. Then we'll stop at Mojo's, get a table and you can tell me all about your performance." He said. I nodded and headed towards his car.
