"What do you mean?" Auntie put her hands on her hips and looked at me sideways.

I sucked my teeth. "Let's not start."

"Boy who you talkin to?"

I just walked out shaking my head. I didn't wanna hear that from my Aunt. That day I left, left me and moms on bad terms which lasted all these years. Honestly, I did wanna see her but shit, not like this.

Lori

"What has gotten into that boy?" 's. Ettins said shaking her head and taking her medicine.

"I don't know."

"Hmmm, well. Ima just pray on it." She sighed. "God can change anything around."

"Yes he can." I said nodding.

"Let me prepare this food for my sister. She just getting off work now, she'll be here in a few."

"You need any help?" I asked.

"Mmm, no honey. You don't have to stay, but thanks for bringing Chris by. I thought something happened to him. I was worried sick."

"You're welcome." I said getting up and walking to the door.

"and look here. I don't want Chris to be a burden on you honey so don't worry about him. If he runs the streets, then just ignore him. He might get you in some trouble and I don't want that. So please be careful. He's a good kid but he makes bad choices. It's just a heads up!"

"Thanks." I said and walked out.

I walked up to my car to see Chris standing there smoking on the passenger side, watching the neighborhood.

"Do you need a ride?"

"Hmm.. I might be cool." He said putting his cigarette out.

"Is that a no?"

"It's a whatever." He smirked.

"Wow, alright." I got in and put on my seatbelt.

Chris tapped on the window.

Later On

I had just dropped Chris off at a gas station like he asked. Damn, I felt bad but I had to listen to Ms. E because I look up to her and I completely understood what she was saying. I didn't need that type of influence around me. I wouldn't be surprised if the nigga sold that stuff.

About three weeks later.

I was at the salon with some coworkers.

"Girl did you see what Justina wore to the ceremony? " Isis asked.

"Mhmm. She had on some hoochie ass dress! I mean like what was she thinking." Maria said shaking her head.

"She was thinking of some dick..obviously. Probably from Mr. C." India blurted out laughing.

"The security?" I asked scrunching my face up.

"Duh!" They all said in unison.

Just then a guy walked in. He was tall, caramel, with soft pink lips and a fresh cut. His teeth was pearly white and he had a little swag to him. Mmm, he was cute.

"Son!" A lady named Erica said giving him a hug.

Ms. Erica owned the salon.

"Hey ma." He said smiling.

"Ladies, this is my son Trey. Trey, these are employees and those ladies over there are my loyal customers. Y'all say hey!"

Everyone said hey, except me. I just picked up a magazine and rolled my eyes. Trey couldn't be any different from any other nigga around here and I wasn't gonna fall for his games or charm like any of these hoes in here would.

A couple of hours later, we were having a feast. Turns out, it was Erica's birthday. Who knew? She never told anyone her birthday.

Trey helped the catering service in as soon as we helped the workers clean up. There was food, drinks, dozens of balloons and flowers everywhere!

Erica was in the backroom getting dolled up by her daughter, Mina.

"Alright y'all, when Mama comes out we gone yell SURPRISE!" Trey said smiling.

"Alright." We all said as we stood in our places.

Knock Knock

"Can I come in?" A familiar face said.

"Here goes the bitch." India said rolling her eyes.
