These donuts were nasty.
I've told them countless times you change their source of food but do they ever listen to me? Noooo. Now I have to eat this crap.
"Ijeoma, stop making that face they can see you don't like it", Chloe said, a teasing smile lingering on her face.
"it's just so bad, how is that even possible? how can you make donuts taste bad?" I asked, truly confused.
"It's made by Edna and no one wants to break her heart after what happened", Chloe sighed, Edna's was a really sad story.
Edna's husband died about 2 years ago and after that she just kept baking and cooking until she realized her house was becoming packed so the church said they'll give the donuts out at a meeting. I didn't know it was our meeting.
"This is for you Larry" I smiled, I really did love that guy.
"oh new guy at 11 o'clock".
"Chloe i honestly don't know how many times we have to watch Brooklyn Nine-Nine for you to learn location" I rolled my eyes.
"I don't like numbers", she reminded me "Now go talk to him, Ms President".
I slowly walked away from her shooting spiritual daggers at her from the back of my head.
"Hey, I'm Ijeoma" I smiled.
"Noah", he grumbles.
"So did you like the meeting? We usually have a more interactive discussion today was just different", I said encouragingly, hoping he'll get involved in the conversation.
"Ok
"um so any reason why you joined us?"
"Can i go? The only reason why I came was for the donuts and they're trash anyways"
"Yeah ok, you do you".
At least we had something in common.
"Just come next week?"
"Yeah ok".
"Seems like a really friendly guy", Chloe glided over to me.
"Tell me about it, I thought he was going to offer me a lollipop" I said sarcastically.
"Wanna drop by callie's before you go home?" she asked hopefully.
"nah I have to go home, need to talk to Femi, I kinda left the house in a rush I didn't even ask how he felt. I'm actually a shit sister", I felt the tears pooling in my eyes again.
"Ma, it's fine just don't cry here I wouldn't know what to do".
"So caring Chloe" i laughed "See you in school?"
"You bet".
I strolled back home reminding myself countless times that when I came in I didn't have to ask dad if he wanted to binge end of the f***ing world again because he wasn't there anymore.
"Femi? You home?"
"In my room", he called out.
I carefully opened the door and peeked in. We just stared at each other for what could've been forever until I decided to break the silence.
"How are we holding up?"
When I was 5 and Femi was 6 we got in trouble for something I honestly don't remember but we just kept shifting the blame. The school called my mom and she talked to the vice principal for an hour, She came out of the office, looked us both straight in the eye and said,
"When you do something together, you say "we" not "she" or "he"."we""
Ever since that day if anyone of us was going through something we used "we" instead of "you" or "I".
"He said he can't come for my game because he's 3 towns away and it'll be too late for him to come and go", he voiced out sadly.
I sighed and plopped down on his bed.
"Look at me, tell me what you see", I sang, because who doesn't love Stranger Things?
"Oh no I'm not singing that song with you, not today, not tomorrow"
"Hey I just met you and this is crazy".
"Ijeoma shut up", he reprimanded laughing.
"Nope you love my singing too much".
"I lowkey do", he smiled.
"Wanna watch FRIENDS?"
"Why not? you're the Monica to my Ross" he grinned
"ew Femi, ew".
