Dominic

It was dark and it was cold. There was flakes of ice on my eyelids. I tried to open them but I couldn't. They were too heavy or I was too weak. Pressure pushed down on my shoulders and stomach. It hurt to breathe. It hurt to move. Jolts of fear pulsed through me. Where was I?

"Dominic?"

I stopped trying to move and listened, was that Rosa?

I tried to speak but something was in my throat, something was choking me.

"Dominic."

I could hear a low growl behind me and something wrap itself around my legs, it moved upwards, snaking around my torso and chest, up onto my shoulders.

Rosa, I needed to see Rosa, I needed to tell her..

It covered my mouth and eyes.

Then I was gone.

Rosa

I leaned blearily against the coffee machine and stared at the fluid in the cup. It might say it was coffee but it most definitely wasn't. I threw it in the bin and went back to the waiting room. I had made myself a small nest of blankets in the corner, one of the nurses had been kind enough to give me a pillow too.

Dominic had been in Intensive Care for over two weeks. I remember the guests at the party talking about the accident near the venue. How there was a variety of emergency services there, the car was stuck down the side of road. How the person inside was surely dead and I'd known, I'd known it was Dominic.

I'd grabbed my coat and begged someone to take me as close as the weather would allow then I'd leapt out and walked to the scene. There was flashing lights everywhere, the swirling snow flickering blue, red then blue. I heard the groan of metal as the tow truck pulled the car up from between the trees and rock. I saw the back of Dominic's car. I think I'd thrown up.

I'd been at the hospital since, popping back to Sophia's to change clothes and shower before returning back to my nest in the waiting room.  I checked Dominic's phone, I'd managed to find a number for his sister and had left numerous messages but she hadn't replied. I didn't even know where she was.

"Rosa? You can come in, they're going to try again," Molly, one of the nurses in the unit, said. I got up and followed her, praying to my mum that this time it would work.

That this would be the time that he'd wake up.

Dominic

The pulling sensation was there again. I tried to hit it away. Something held onto my hand tightly.

What was this? Where was I? I needed to get to Rosa, she was waiting for me.

"Dominic, it's me. It's Rosa. You're safe."

I stopped moving. I could feel light forcing its way underneath my eyelids. They felt as if they'd be glued shut.

"Dominic, it's ok. I'm here. I love you."

I pulled my eyelids open then recoiled in horror. There was a mass of people staring at me, stethoscopes in their ears, looking at things above my head. I tried to talk but something was choking me. Something was in my mouth. I couldn't talk.

"Move closer love, he's awake."

And there she was.  Dark curly hair. Stormy sea blue eyes that were full of tears. Full lips. Her smile, God, her beautiful smile.

Rosa.
