You didn't think you could love him any more than you already did, but he kept proving you wrong, and you couldn't even be upset in your wrongness. Right at that moment, you adored him, and he had to know. He just had to. You could feel your expression, you knew you were looking at him like he was the moon and you were every artist in history.

Most people wouldn't understand. He was rambling in his way, never making eye contact, half his lips turned up in a smile while his eyes darted more around you than actually looked at you. It didn't bother you. You loved it when he talked all about his passions, his magical creatures, but that wasn't why you were overflowing with adoration.

He was here.

At a bar, in the middle of the night.

This was miles out of his comfort zone, you could fit a small country between here and his comfort zone, but he was here anyway. For you. Because he knew you loved to adventure. He'd seen it first hand, when you helped him rescue magical creatures, he'd never forget the way you looked with an Occamy cradled in your arm protectively, firing spells like a vengeful goddess.

And, when at home, you were still the extrovert, still the adventurer, and he was miles from his comfort zone to see you glow in yours.

And you loved him for it.

The wizard's bar wasn't too crowded tonight, so you could hear him perfectly, talking about... Okay, honestly, you didn't know anymore, you'd lost track, but it was still wonderful to listen to, and you found yourself tracing the rim of your empty glass while you listened.

It was only when you noticed he was also out of refreshment that you could bare to stop him. You still waited for a lull.

"Newt, would you care for another drink?"

"Hm?" He glanced at his cup. "Oh, no, it's, it's fine. One's enough for me." A small smile, which was so him you thought you were going to do something embarrassing, like lunge across the table to his booth and snog him senseless.

"Is it alright if I get another? I haven't had this stuff since I was a teenager."

He nodded, eyes fixed on the table. You were hesitant to leave him. But he'd be okay, nobody would bother him in the booth, it was why you picked it.

You probably should've been more worried about yourself.

You made your way to the bar, smiling at people as you went. Not flirtatious smiling, mind you, but you liked being friendly with people. "Another butterbeer, please." The bartender nodded. Behind him, things started to move, making your drink with elegant swiftness. Magic is a wonderful thing.

"Well, hello there."

You turned, stifling a sigh. This wasn't the first time someone had tried to hit on you. Before, it had been fun, but you didn't need that kind of fun anymore. "Hi," you said to the man who had wandered up next to you. Not too close... Yet.

Aaaaand now it was too close.

"Do I know you from somewhere, Miss?"

"I don't think so." Get the drink, back to Newt. Get the drink, back to Newt. Do not commit a crime in the process. Even extroverts have limitations, you didn't need some dude breathing down your neck when you had Newt Scamander, who always respected you and your space. Even when you were strangers.

"I could've sworn that we'd met somewhere before."

"No, I'm pretty sure we haven't."

"Pity. You seemed pretty bored with the man you've been talking to, and I don't blame you. He didn't seem like someone who would know how to treat a dame. Not all right in the head, ya know?"

Your back was to the booth, so you didn't see Newt when he left his seat to get to you, unsure of what to do, only knowing that he had to stand between you and the threat this man was posing to your person, towering over you.

You didn't know he was standing behind you, halfway to reaching for your hand, when you drew your wand and nearly shoved it up the man's nose.

"Say what you will about me. Unfortunately, I'm a firm believer in the right to speak, even for bumbling morons. However, speak one more word against Newt, I will have your head on a plate."

He took a step back, had to, with your wand in his face. "I-"

"You've said enough. If you come near either of us again, I'll-"

Only Newt's knuckles, gently brushing your free hand, could stop you. You didn't lower your wand.

"Y/n."

You didn't move to lower your wand.

"I'd advise you leave," Newt told the space next to the now considerably more frightened man. That small smile again. "She's quite excellent at curses."

Even when he was gone, you hesitated before lowering your wand, especially when you heard him mutter that you were both crazy.

You couldn't remember when you'd last been so angry. Newt was reminded once again of the vengeful goddess. The only thing to calm you down would have to be drastic, and it was.

He slipped his hand into yours.

You dropped your wand. Almost really dropped it. Newt wasn't one for pubic affection. Even after all this time.

"...You didn't have to do that." You put away your wand.

"Neither did you."

You couldn't stand to take your hand out of his, but you turned around. "I don't like it when people say things about you."

"You defended me bravely."

"And you came out here for me-"

"Don't worry. It, I'm used to it. It's not the first time."

"You shouldn't have to be. And you don't have to do these things, go out like this, if you don't want to. I'm happy where you are, and if that's in the case, if that's on the other side of the world, I'm happy, Newt."

You kissed his cheek, smiling. "Let's go home."

So you did.

Hope you liked it!!!! ❤️❤️❤️
