Chapter Sixteen: Platonic

Dune Quinn Reporting for Duty

Seeing Avery like that had done something to me. And once again I found myself clutching my fists as I watched Stark quietly eat breakfast across from me; he was keeping his distance now. Avery had skipped breakfast and went off somewhere, where that was I didn’t know. Herelsia was keeping an eye on me as Xalon sat beside me with his arms crossed and a pout on his face. Where his unhappiness came from was childish.

“You forgot about our meeting at the bar last night?” Xalon drew out each word. I grinded my teeth and resisted the urge to reach out and hit the punk.

“I said we can go another time.” I forced the words out as I caught Stark looking up at me and then quickly looking away. I hopped my beating had taught him a lesson he would never forget, and if he ever came near Avery again, god help him. I’d go crazy on his fucking ass.

“Dune calm down. I understand how you feel, but calm the heck down.” Herelsia ordered me as she glared at me from across the table. I middle fingered her, something I had done in awhile. Herelsia shoved out her chair and got up and walked over to me until she was standing right beside me. “Look buddy I get you’re pissed off and angry and all this other shit. But don’t you dare go taking that out on me or anyone else.” I turned my head slightly to look at her and just shrugged her off.

“What do your words matter to me? You couldn’t possibly understand how I feel.” I said through my teeth, and then suddenly I got up, this surprised Herelsia and she backed off. Dumping off my tray I exited the cafeteria and headed to the main controls room. I wouldn’t rest until he had atoned for his sins that bloody bastard.

When I reached the main controls room I was surprised to see Avery there looking out the window that allowed us to see what was before us and attackers with Captain Russell at her side. They seemed to be talking about something important so I cowered off to the side and leaned against the wall.

“We’re nearing a black hole?” Avery asked Captain Russell, uncertainty in her voice.

“Well a black hole that I believe has a worm hole within it. We’re going to have to try very hard to pull away from the black hole’s gravity and avoid disaster.” Russell explained, I heard beeping noises as if he was pressing buttons.

“I see. I’ll forewarn the mechanics crew along with the look outs.” Avery said.

“You can do so later. The matter isn’t even that dangerous yet. I’ll tell you when it’d be best to warn the others, wouldn’t want to get them uselessly upset now would we?” Russell commented. I could just imagine Avery biting her lip and nodding in response.

“Now then. Dune you can come in.” I looked around the corner of the door surprised; did he have x-ray vision or something? Stepping out of the shadows I entered the main controls room scratching my head.

“So we’re nearing a black hole, or worm hole are we?” I asked to break the awkward silence. Captain Russell shook his head and smiled at me.
