-THAT NIGHT-

"Jake," Andy called to him.

Jake lifted his head, his blurry eyes focusing in on the younger boy. "Who are you?" He whispered.

"Andy, we're here to break you out." He told him, climbing up.

"Why?" Jake frowned.

"I'll explain later, right now, we need to get you out of these chains." Andy told him, the other three boys following him up.

Inspecting the lock, he brought CC forward, nodding to the metal. The older boy looked at the two young men hanging around the edge of the staging around uneasily before he sighed, breaking the lock. The sound seemed amplified in the silent night, and everyone but the blue eyed boy winced. They got Jake out of the bonds easily from there, quiet and nervous of being discovered.

"C'mon," Andy jumped down and walked confidently through the halls to an unmarked room.

"Where are we?" Ashley asked, glancing around curiously.

Andy shrugged, turning the door handle. It swung open, a light flickering on. "A storage room," he observed. "Oh. Oh I see," He murmured, moving forward to grip fabric. "How do you boys feel about black?" He smirked mischievously, holding up a leather vest.

The four exchanged looks before combing through the storage room. "Are you going to tell me who you are now?" Jake asked once they changed, the blackness of the clothing melting their bodies into the shadows easily.

"I'm Andy," Andy told him, pulling on combat boots with a smirk.

"I'm Ashley," The older boy was looking into an old silver plate, tying a piece of black cloth around his head.

"I'm CC," the voice was heard, but CC's body was hidden behind a pile of boxes as he looked for something.

"I'm Jinxx," Jinxx, who had gone for the simplest outfit and therefore was lounging around on an old wooden crate.

"Yeah, I got that much," Jake rolled his eyes. "But who are you? Why did you break me out?"

"Because you're one of us," Andy got up, holding out the pendent. "Five points. Five of us. We've all got our own powers, and together, we're going to change things."

"Like what?"

"I don't know."

Jake looked at Andy incredulously. "What do you mean you don't know?"

Andy pulled on a leather jacket and smirked, admiring it. "I don't know," He shrugged. "I can't control or direct my power like you guys can. It kinda just... happens."

"What can you do?" Jake raised his eyebrow.

"Save your ass from execution," Ashley snorted.

Jake looked at Jinxx for help. "It's called prescience, he can see the future," Jinxx shrugged.

"Well, yes and no," Andy shrugged, turning back to face Jake. "John said that it was something closer to visceral. I'm not always sure what's going to happen, but I know how to react to it before it happens. An over zealous intuition if you will." He smirked and tied the combats up.

CC came out from behind the boxes with a bag of supplies to take with them, probably being the most suited to carry the heavy stuff.

Ashley picked up a half burnt book, running his fingers over the cover before smirking at Jinxx. "Your handy work?" He asked, tossing the book at him, scratching his jaw absentmindedly.

"Probably from the fire two years ago," Jinxx admitted, flipping through the pages, paying no mind as Andy closed the storage room door and turned off the lights.

A moment later, loud footfalls slapped the stone floors, bouncing off the walls to warn the 5 boys of the guards approaching. They remained absolutely silent and still until they passed. Even still, Andy waited a few moments before automatically turning the light back on.

"Hey that looks pretty cool," CC commented to Ashley, gesturing to his own jawline.

Ashley looked in the silver plate and examined the three streaks of black, nodding slowly. "Hey Jinxx, toss me that book," He caught it with ease, breaking some of the burnt parts off into a broken teacup, adding a little bit of water.

He found a thin stick and applied it around his eyes. "Better," he nodded, handing the makeshift paint to CC.

With a little too much on the stick, CC went to apply it around his eyes, only for it to drop onto his cheek. He studied it before shrugging, making it a little bigger before applying it around his eyes as well.

He handed it off to Jake who still didn't seem quite sure of what to make of the group of four, but was willing to do anything to stay in their favour. He put it around his eyes, glanced at the cup before dipping pointer and middle finger into the substance, dragging it across his right cheekbone.

Jinxx was next. He traced a diamond around his left eye, filling it in. He would've done both, but they were running out and Andy still had to do it.

It was odd, Andy had observed. A ragtag gang of boys with unexplainable powers were silently bonding over the black marks on Ashley's jawline. Somehow, without a word spoken, they had all agreed that it looked cool enough that they all wanted to participate. As an added bonus, any face recognition software would be thrown off by the black markings. Andy applied it skillfully around his eyes, dragging a thin line across his left cheekbone until he hit his hair.

In that moment, something began that not even Andy could have predicted.

Andy completely tensed. "We need to go."

Jinxx collected all the partially burnt books, bringing them to his chest as Andy looked out the door. He gestured for everyone to remain silent as they moved through halls. They stopped at the doors, surprised it was that easy.

Though to be fair, of course it was.

FEAR was a haven. It was cool during the day and warm at night. It had food, and water, and protection. People in surrounding villages dreamed and begged and bartered and stole and lied to get into FEAR, why on earth would anyone try to leave such an incredible paradise?

Andy turned to the boys. "Last chance," He warned. "The moment was walk through those doors, there's no turning back."

To their credit, not a single member of their little gang faltered. Andy nodded slowly, and into the night they went.
