The door slammed open, two FEAR soldiers with men who looked like they were made of shadows on their heels entering. The house was silent, for a moment, before one of them shot. CC hit the floor, the ground splitting. The Shadow Men disappeared, but the boys wouldn't take any chances.

They scrambled around, gathering what little belongings they had and slinked out of the building, melting into the shadows for protection. When they were finally a far enough distance away that Andy deemed it safe, they took a collective breath.

"What were those things?" Ashley asked, hands on his knees.

"I don't know," Andy glared at the direction they came from. "And I don't want to find out. C'mon, we have to keep moving." He knew they needed to find shelter again before it was dark- the night was unforgiving and deadly, when it wanted to be.

"Wait," Jake didn't move, causing the other members to stop and turn to look at him.

Andy however, didn't even bother to turn around. He paused his movements and stared directly ahead.

"Look, I'm grateful to you, all of you, for breaking me out and getting me off death row, really, but why? I get it, we all have these unexplainable powers and the Church is corrupt and needs to be stopped, but we've been sneaking around for three months, doing nothing but hiding and scavenging and running away from whatever threats the Church throws at us. But why?" He asked exasperated. "Three months for what? A couple of rebelling kids, some body paint and code names? What's the point?"

Jinxx was first to look at Andy's back, followed by Ashley who's usual smirk was gone, and CC, who had the most serious expression any of them had seen on his face.

Andy didn't say anything for a minute before he sighed. "Listen," He turned to face Jake with a dangerously calm expression. "I have been playing the waiting game for almost 7 years now. That's all it is- a game. And we have to play by the rules laid out for us or it's game over. I'll be frank with you, Jake. I have no idea what I'm doing. I have no idea why it has to be us, I have no idea what we're meant to do, I have no idea why we're here or what's going to happen when it's over. I have no idea. My power is wild and confusing and I understand that it's not entirely helpful all of the time, however, it has kept us alive this long, and I know we're destined for greatness, but we have to be patient. We have to follow the rules and play the game until it's time to break them. We played their rules for years before we turned to our own, and now we have to follow them before we can break those, too."

The group was silent for a moment as Andy's words sunk in.

"Now," He cleared his throat. "If that's all, let's go," He swiftly turned back around, only to be met with a familiar young boy.

"Philip." Andy didn't sound surprised.

"You can't leave yet!" He cried out. "What about me and Dani? You haven't even met Phoebe yet!"

Andy crouched down and looked up at the young boy who was sniffling. "It's not safe for us right now, but once we find a place to live, we will come for you." He promised.

Philip held his hand out. Andy grabbed his forearm, his long fingers wounding around Philip's arm, whereas Philip's hand barely went half away around Andy's.

Jake took a step back as he was hit with a vision of an older Philip holding Andy's arm the same way.

And then his hand going limp moments later.

He didn't say anything about the revelation, but he couldn't quite meet the boy's eyes as he moved through the group, mirror the gesture with all of the men before hightailing it back home.
