Natsu POV

Natsu was getting bored just walking, and occasional headaches. Which had been his routine for two days now? He wasn't around people now so maybe he could just see what would happen if he just didn't fight back. Maybe it was a horrible idea, maybe that was what he needed to control it, maybe that's what it needed to control him, maybe... Natsu decided that it was too risky whether or not he was around anybody. He could really regret it later. This was one thing he needed guidance with, making hasty decisions about his situation. Has anyone ever had this issue before?

Was he really the only person who's ever been so lost? Probably not, but he couldn't help pitying himself for it. Something else he hated that resided within him, self-pity. Natsu had everything it took to waver from good to evil. He had a need for power, he's abandoned his friends not once, but twice now. Don't even start on how many times he's just let them down in general. He's a demon. Has self-pity. He's even confused right and wrong many times. He must be starting to crack. He wavered off the dirt path and collapsed on the grass. What was wrong with him? Why is all he's good for fighting?

He felt tears leak. There it is again, stupid self-pity. He doesn't deserve to pity himself, he had might as well teach himself a lesson, there was no one else to. he opened his bag and looked at the knife he'd packed. That was his lesson, he sliced a messy cut over his arm.

It hurt but felt good at the same time. He was disgusting getting pleasure from his own blood, how sick. He stuck his now bloody knife in his bag not letting himself do anything else

Lucy's POV

Lucy didn't know exactly what was happening, but what she did know was that something bad was happening to Natsu. How she knew, she didn't know that either. Levy and Gajeel had been good traveling partners so far, with the occasional flirting. The funny arguments between the two during the 24 hr journey so far had been about Levy doubting whether or not Gajeel's nose was working because of all the times the scent had gone to the grass, or forest and then right back to the trail again. The remarks had kept Lucy in a semi-positive mood. Trying to make herself believe Natsu took a job without checking with Mira or something. She knew that wasn't the case though.

Happy told her all the places in Magnolia to check, to no avail. His smell in Magnolia was fading according to Gajeel, which made her feel eery for some reason. Lucy had been in the back completely quiet basically the entire journey, she hadn't been nearly as social as Levy and Gajeel during the trip.

It was getting dark and Gajeel announced that Levy needed to rest, "Hey! It's not that dark, and I'm just fine!" Gajeel just shook his head vigorously "You're lucky I let you come, don't make me regret it." And with that, they set up camp without a word.

Lucy had a hard time going to sleep, her brain was just so awake fantasizing scenarios of what could be happening where Natsu was. Their team just kept being torn apart. She seemed to be the only one struggling to sleep.

Lucy looked over at Levy who was asleep, snuggling with Gajeel who looked to be still slightly awake. Lucy couldn't get comfortable no matter what position she veered to. She figured that keeping her mind off stressful matters like the current one would calm her down. She tried to think back to some calm event she could remember, but she only remembered exciting things. That might just be how the brain works, only remembering dramatic events. Lucy finally drifted asleep.
