James had to do something to win Lily over this year. He couldn't face the thought of another year of the girl he loved telling him she hated him.

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Surely she had to like him a little bit. The world couldn't be that cruel.

What did people do in stories? Gifts were never going to work. Maybe, he would have to date someone else to make her a little jealous, then she would realise that she truly liked him deep down.

He related this to the other marauders on the train, who all said it was a terrible idea. (He couldn't help but notice that Sirius's head was on Remus's shoulder.) James didn't listen.

Now, who would annoy Lily the most. Someone younger, maybe a third year, hot, obviously, and who adored him.

Then it hit him. There was a third year Gryffindor called Florance, who had followed him round since she had started.

She was gorgeous, but he had never had time for any girl except Lily. Today that changed.

Sirius went to find the food trolley and the James went with him. As they passed Florance's compartment he winked at her, setting off a frenzy of blushing and giggling.

Remus could feel Sirius' head on his shoulder. He could smell Sirius. His hair was draped over Remus' shoulder and they both felt warm and comfortable.

Remus felt an strange emotion towards Sirius and he was sure he had felt it towards him before, but in this moment it was stronger than it had ever been. He didn't feel this emotion towards anyone else. Just Sirius.

He wanted to run his hands through the black tangle of hair on his shoulder. He wanted wrap his arms around his friend and never let go. He wanted stay like this forever.
Why was he thinking these things?

Hang on... did he... was he... no. Was he gay? He must be, it would explain a lot. So then, did he... did he like Sirius Black?
Yes, he realised, he did. He had for quite a long time.

Next question. Was Sirius gay? No. Apart from wrecking havoc with James, Sirius' favourite hobby was flirting with girls.

Remus concluded that he should just keep quiet and see what happened, which would probably be nothing.

This year would be completely normal.

Florance had accepted James' invitation to Hogsmeade immediatly in a squeaky, girly voice, before almost fainting.

When, Lily heard about it from Mary in the common room she laughed and said, 'Thank Merlin he's bothering someone else'.

This wasn't exactly the reaction James had hoped for but he decided to give it time.

His new girlfriend turned out to be incredibly obnoxious. She was always there, outside classrooms after his lessons, next to him at meals, in the stands at Quidditch practice.

She giggled all the time and insisted on hand-holding. All three of his friends laughed at this and he was sure he would have laughed if it had been one of them, but right now he felt sulky.

This really wasn't working. He wasn't going to be able to put up with her for much longer. But he couldn't just dump her. What would that tell Lily?
Sirius wouldn't leave him alone over it.

'Soo.'
'What, Sirius?'
'How's it going with Little Miss Giggles.'
'Not now.'
'Trouble in paradise?'
'Shut up.'
'Save that for her.'
'It's not funny, Sirius.'
'It's hilarious.'
'I'm serious.'
'No, I'm Sirius.'
'Stop it.'
'I don't want to.'
'I'm upset.'
'Aww, poor baby. You have a girlfriend. Boo hoo.'
'Yeah, well, you have a boyfriend.'
'What?'
'You and Remus are pretty friendly, huh?'
'No.'
'Defensive much.'
'We aren't... you don't... I... we're not a thing.'
'Sure. You can tell me anything. You know that, right?'
