Nuclear Plague

Prologue

"WARNING! WARNING!" A loud siren blared all around the room, red lights flashed on the walls, "CHEMICAL IMBALANCE DETECTED. EXPLOSION IMMINENT."

"Hey!" A female scientist called out, "Someone push the red button on the left!"

"On it!" A male scientist called out, rushing over to the button.

As quickly as he could, he slammed his palm on the button and the alarm stopped.

"Well, that was a close one huh dad?" The female scientist said.

"Hehe. Oh yeah." He replied, "What was the issue Emily?"

"No clue, I thought... Oh wait, I see what happened. I accidentally put too much water in it."

"How much more?"

"About a tablespoon? Somewhere around that."

"Hmm. Lucky for us we can just undo an action eh? Imagine working back when grandpa was your age! If you made a mistake like that you couldn't just undo it haha."
"With all the dangerous work we do? I doubt we'd last a second!"

"Speak for yourself! I'm educated enough to know what not to do!"

"I seem to remember a few years ago when you almost blew up half of New America working on that new weapon."

"That was... Alright fine, fair enough. But where we fail, we learn. So let's learn to take out that tablespoon of water."

"Alright alright, I'm getting there."
Emily took a tablespoon and removed the right amount of water from the cup.

"So Em, ready to see if this works?"
"Ready when you are."

"Oh I'm ready, but the honor belongs to you. After all, you're the head scientist here right?"
"Only for the immortality research, you still hold more power than me here! Just pull the lever already."

"As your father, I command you to pull it."

"Ugh fiiine. You had to pull the dad card, didn't you?"
"It's the best card in my deck. Now stop stalling, let's see if this works."

Emily pulled the lever and the water emptied into the flask. After a few seconds of the liquid changing colors, it finally settled on blue. After it was taken out and studied the two knew they had finally been successful and discovered immortality.

"Wow..." Emily stood in awe, "We actually did it! We did it Dad! We discovered immortality!"

"That we did..." He replied in shock, "We need to show this to-"

"ALERT! ALERT!" A siren started up and the red lights started flashing.

"Dad?! Did something go wrong?!"

"I-" He stood there confused, "No I don't think so?"
"NUCLEAR BOMBS APPROACHING. THIS IS NOT A DRILL. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY."

"EMILY GET DOWN!"

"DAD WHAT'S GOING-"

Without warning there was a giant explosion, everything was white and a loud piercing sound was all that could be heard until finally things faded to black. After years of war it had finally ended in one quick decision with no victor as the world now crumbled and was full of radiation and people who now struggled for survival.
